Del Mar Photonics Announces the New Beacon Upconversion Spectrometer

6/23/06

San Diego, CA (June 23, 2006) - Del Mar Photonics, Inc. today announced its new Beacon Femtosecond Fluorescence Upconversion Spectrometer. Beacon is used for real-time measurement of fluorescence lifetimes in the 400-1500 nm range.

Beacon is compatable with pulsed Ti:sapphire lasers, such as the Trestles, or a Ti:sapphire regenerative amplifier, such as the Wedge-R, both from Del Mar Photonics. Proprietary software provides delay stage and monochromator control and data acquisition, with both 2D and 3D data displays of wavelengths, time, and emission intensity. Polarization optics for polarization dependent fluorescence measurements, and a frequency doubler installed in the optical unit are optional features.

The system offers a standard time scale of 1600 ps, step size of 6.6 fs, temporal resolution <140 fs, repetition rate of pulses 1 kHz to 82 mHz, average power of >0.6 W and a footprint of W24" x H36" x L10". An optional time scale of 3600 ps and step size of 13.2 fs is also available. There are many applications for the Beacon, including studies of biological macromolecules, intra- and intermolecular dynamics in liquids such as vibrational cooling or solvation dynamics, ultrafast carrier dynamics in quantum dots, and fluorescence anisotropy. Research areas include cell biology, photophysics, femtochemistry, materials science and nanoscience.
