Vishay Releases TANTAMOUNTŪ Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors in Hi-Rel COTS, Low-ESR, and Standard Industrial Grade Versions with Industry's Highest 63-V Rating in D and E Case Sizes

Enhanced T83, TR3, and 293D Series Devices Designed to Meet Derating Requirements of + 28-V Power Supply Designs

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - Sep. 2, 2009 - To meet derating requirements in +28-V power supply designs, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that it has extended its TANTAMOUNTŪ Hi-Rel COTS T83, low-ESR TR3, and standard industrial grade 293D series of solid tantalum chip capacitors to offer ratings up to 63 V, the highest voltage available in the industry for this device type.

Lacking alternatives for + 28-V applications, until now designers have been forced to rely on 50-V tantalum capacitors, which are unable to meet derating requirements (both military and best-commercial-practices) of 50 % of the rated voltage. With 63-V ratings in D and E case sizes, the new T83, TR3, and 293D solve this long-standing issue by allowing designers to incorporate solid surface-mount tantalum capacitors into their +28-V power supply designs while fully complying with derating requirements.

Providing less expensive options for decoupling in 63-V applications and power supplies at + 28 V, and dc-to-dc conversion at 35 V, the devices released today are optimized for airborne applications; sensor applications; industrial control applications; and base stations.

The Hi-Rel COTS T83 series offers high-reliability screening options including Weibull grading, and surge current testing options in accordance with MIL-PRF-55365 in five case sizes. The devices are available in standard- and low-ESR versions.

The low-ESR TR3 series offers a high ripple current carrying capability, while the standard industrial grade 293D is optical character recognition qualified. The TR3 and 293D capacitors are each offered in six case sizes.

Part of Vishay's TANTAMOUNT tantalum capacitor family, all devices offer a voltage range from 4 V to 63 V over a temperature range of - 55 °C to + 85 °C, + 125 °C with voltage derating. Compatible with high-volume automatic pick-and-place equipment, the capacitors feature standard RoHS-compliant tin terminations, with Sn/Pb terminations available.

Samples and production quantities of the new 63-V solid tantalum chip capacitors are available now, with lead times of 6 to 8 weeks for larger orders.
