Vishay Intertechnology Launches TANTAMOUNT® Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors for Non-Life-Support Medical Devices
Reliable Molded Capacitors Combine Robust Anode Design With Weibull Grading and Hi-Rel Screening Options
MALVERN, Pa. — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new series of TANTAMOUNT® surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors designed to provide improved performance and reliability in a wide variety of non-life-support medical monitoring and diagnostic instruments for in-home and hospital use. Featuring a robust anode design, the TM3 series is 100 % surge current tested (B, C, D, and E case sizes) and available with Weibull grading and Hi-Rel screening options.
Vishay manufactures the new TM3 series at its Dimona, Israel, manufacturing facility. In addition to being ISO9001-certified, the Dimona plant was recently certified to ISO13485 standards, which outline medical device regulatory requirements for quality management systems and facilitate the requirements needed for medical device regulatory compliance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The Vishay Sprague TM3 devices released today are optimized for input capacitor filters on DC/DC converters, hot plugging surges on battery chargers, low-drop-out devices, and capacitor charge pumps. Typical end products will include glucose meters, infusion pumps, nebulizers, and thermometers.
TM3 devices are offered in a molded package in five standard EIA-535BAAC case codes: A, B, C, D, and E. The capacitors provide a capacitance range from 1 µF to 220 µF over voltage ratings from 4 V to 20 V; capacitance tolerances of ± 10 % and ± 20 %; high ripple current carrying capability to 11 A; and an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +125 °C with voltage derating.
RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, the TM3 series is available with 100 % matte tin or tin/lead terminations. The devices are compatible with high-volume automatic pick-and-place equipment, and their dry packaging is compliant to the JEDEC-033 standard.
Samples and production quantities of the new TM3 series are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.90.
