February 19, 2003 - CoolCube™ allows placement of overdrive voltage on solenoid valve, which can decrease valve response time, increase operating pressure, and reduce power consumption. Control module provides step-down voltage to 1/3 of input voltage. Hit and hold circuit accepts 12 or 24 Vdc input to energize solenoid valve with full power for 110 msec. It then drops voltage and current and reduces power consumption to 1/9 of original value to hold valve in its energized mode, reducing heat generation.

CoolCube™ Solenoid Control Module Provides a Step-Down, "Hit and Hold" Power Control Circuit

Boonton, NJ: An energy-efficient CoolCube™ solenoid control module from Bio-Chem Valve, Inc. has been designed to allow the placement of an overdrive voltage on a solenoid valve, which can decrease valve response time, increase operating pressure, and reduce power consumption.

The compact, easy to install, CoolCube control module provides a step-down voltage to 1/3 of the input voltage. The innovative "hit and hold" circuit accepts either a 12 VDC or a 24 VDC input to energize the solenoid valve with full power for 110 milliseconds. It then drops the voltage and current and reduces power consumption to 1/9 of the original value to "hold" the valve in its energized mode thereby reducing heat generation. The Cool Cube can remain under power indefinitely without being damaged. When power to the CoolCube is cut, the valve immediately turns off, as if the CoolCube were not in the system.

The CoolCube permits placing an overdrive voltage on a solenoid valve. This means that a solenoid valve rated for 12 VDC can be energized with a voltage of 24 VDC. Since the CoolCube automatically drops the voltage after 110 milliseconds, the solenoid will not be impaired in any way. As a result, with some valve adjustments, a valve's response time can be decreased by up to 60%, operating pressure can be dramatically raised, and valve stroke can be increased to permit use of larger tubing with the same basic pinch valve design.
