ITTIA DB + ODBC: a Combination that Really Matters!

November 12, 2008 - Bellevue, WA - ITTIA boosts its database features by introducing an Open Database Connectivity, or ODBC, driver for ITTIA DB. The ODBC API support makes another impact for ITTIA DB developers to share data with embedded systems and devices while also offering reporting capabilities to their end-users.

Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is an interface for accessing data in a heterogeneous application of relational database management systems. Based on the standard SQL Call Level Interface specification, ODBC provides an open method of accessing data stored in a variety of embedded systems and devices databases.

With ODBC added to ITTIA DB's features, developers are now able to tune-up their application performance and use standard interface. Application developers and product architects generally consider two options for managing their applications data interface. They will either develop unique, non-portable code that interfaces to the native proprietary API of each database that their program requires or utilize a standard interface like ODBC to connect to each database.

With support for ODBC 3.5, the most widely used interface for SQL databases, ITTIA DB database files can be accessed from all available off-the-shelf ODBC-compliant tools and applications. This API allows ITTIA DB developers to use standard ODBC interface and also access tables directly through ITTIA DB's custom APIs for C, C++, .NET, and Java.

ODBC is a compelling API for C and C++ developers, providing an industry-standard interface for database access through SQL queries. ODBC makes it easier to port existing database-driven applications to mobile and embedded systems. ITTIA DB meets the requirements for ODBC 3 core level conformance, and provides full access to the rich SQL features of ITTIA DB-SQL. The ODBC driver is available as a beta release on Windows and Linux.

ODBC also makes it easy for the end user of applications embedded with ITTIA DB to access and modify data in an ITTIA DB-SQL database. Software end-users can now use standard software tools for reporting and data aggregation with their embedded and mobile devices that are designed with ITTIA DB-SQL. This is an important value-added feature that device manufacturers can now offer their customers.

Sasan Montaseri, ITTIA's President, said, "The ITTIA DB ODBC driver enables application developers of embedded systems and devices to benefit from our database to connect to other embedded systems via a standard interface," he said. "The ODBC driver also allows end-users to utilize third-party ODBC tools for reporting. This step further confirms our dedication in adding value to application developers who work with embedded systems and mobile handheld devices." Sasan Montaseri said.
