ESI Group Launches PAM-CEM Solutions 2002

Latest release breaks new grounds in 3D Computational Electro-Magnetics simulation

MICAD 2002 - Paris, March 26, 2002 - ESI Group, a leading provider of virtual prototyping and manufacturing solutions, today announced the availability of PAM-CEM Solutions 2002. The 2002 version includes many new features for the realistic virtual testing of complex electromagnetic phenomena. From the influence of electronic devices in the transportation industry - automotive and railway - to telecommunications and antenna design, PAM-CEM Solutions 2002 analyse electromagnetic compatibility and interference problems. PAM-CEM Solutions 2002 enable manufacturers to streamline the product development process, making engineering environments more productive.

The new enhanced user environment reduces the implementation phase and allows the user to focus on the analysis. Most native CAD data can be imported using the Geomesh module, while existing mesh from Nastran, DXF or STL, can be directly handled through the enhanced "discrete surface" feature. The related meshing stage is improved as well, with. refinement capabilities in close relationship with significant electromagnetic contributors such as, wire antennas, slots, or apertures.

Fully integrated into the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), PAM-CEM Solutions 2002 includes PAM-CEM 2002, an advanced 3D finite element simulation tool for electromagnetic compatibility, CEM3D, a solver for fast evaluation of radiated electromagnetic fields, CRIPTE, a tool for interference analysis on cable
networks, and SYSMAGNA, a dedicated software product for low frequency.

"PAM-CEM Solutions 2002's new features will allow the deployment of advanced CEM simulation in the automotive industry, and help evaluate on-board communications devices existing in the newest
generation of vehicles - including telephony, navigational aides and information systems - and their impact on electromagnetic compatibility," says Jean-Claude Kedzia, PAM-CEM Solutions Product Manager, ESI Group.

Key Features
- Modeling of dielectric materials provides more detailed analysis, featuring parasitic effects of automotive internal equipment, such as windows, glass components, or joints.

- Antenna design with multi-frequency analysis gives direct access to radiation patterns in the complete operating frequency range in one single run, drastically reducing computational time.

- Rectilinear and circular polarization of radiated waves can now be handled, fulfilling typical industrial requirements for antenna design.

- Several post-processing capabilities are available: input or transfer impedance management, Smith charts, radiation patterns, either in 2D polar plots or in the entire 3D space, etc.

Availability
PAM-CEM Solutions 2002 are available on UNIX workstations and servers from Compaq, HP, IBM, NEC, SGI, and SUN.

About ESI Group
Editor of virtual testing solutions, ESI Group is a pioneer and world leading provider of numerical simulation prototypes and manufacturing processes that take into account the physics of materials. ESI Group has developed an entire suite of coherent, industry oriented applications to realistically simulate a product's behavior during testing, to fine tune the manufacturing processes in synergy with the desired product performance, and to evaluate the environment's impact on product usage. ESI Group's product portfolio, which has been industrially validated and combined in multi-trade value chains, represents a unique collaborative, virtual engineering solution, known as the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), enabling a continuous improvement on the virtual prototype. By dastically reducing costs and development lead times, VTOS solutions offer major competitive advantages by progressively eliminating the need for physical prototypes. With revenues close to euros 43 million
in fiscal year 2001, ESI Group (Nouveau Marche: Euronext Paris - Software - Euroclear 6584 -Bloomberg ESI FP - Reuters ESIG.LN ) employs over 300 high-level specialists worldwide.
