BEA Ships WebLogic Real Time Core Edition 1.1, a Ground-Breaking Solution for Extreme Performance and Predictability in Java

New Release Targets Financial Services, Manufacturing and Any Industry With Time-Critical Needs

Core News Facts -- BEA WebLogic Real Time(TM) Core Edition 1.1 is designed to enable Java applications to deliver the fast, predictable response times that real-time environments demand; available for download today at www.bea.com/realtime. -- WebLogic Real Time is designed to bring the high developer productivity benefits of Java to the extreme world of real-time applications for the first time. -- Companies that currently write and maintain proprietary real-time infrastructure code (typically in C or C++) can now use WebLogic Real Time, freeing up in-house resources to focus on differentiating business logic.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 28 // -- BEA Systems (NASDAQ:BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the general availability of WebLogic Real Time(TM) (WLRT) Core Edition 1.1, the latest release of BEA's powerful Java real-time solution. Enhancing response time nearly three-fold WebLogic Real Time now boasts that it can provide 30-millisecond maximum latency on its benchmark application. This improved performance is achieved through extreme optimization and advanced techniques for bounding latency. In applications such as financial trading, guaranteed sub-second latency can help to provide millions of dollars per day in increased profit.

BEA extends WebLogic product family innovation with WebLogic Real Time 1.1

WLRT Core Edition 1.1 is designed to enable senior IT managers and architects in financial services, manufacturing, gaming and military/aerospace to implement Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) services in Java, offering higher performance and better predictability. WLRT can help allow developers with real time requirements to use Java where previously that type of functionality had to be programmed in C or C++. Using Java, developers can implement real-time requirements that are more easily integrated into a SOA.

SOA and web services can help enable businesses to become more fluid and dynamic by unlocking siloed and legacy IT assets and allowing them to flow together. Until the release of WLRT, doing this with Java was simply not a viable option for these kinds of latency sensitive environments. BEA is scheduled to demonstrate the real-time capabilities of WLRT at this year's BEAWorld 2006 (for more information about the three BEAWorld 2006 forums, visit www.bea.com/beaworld and register today).

"Before WebLogic Real Time, companies had to write and maintain real-time applications in C or C++, which is often a costly, cumbersome, inflexible and time-consuming process," said Tony de la Lama, vice president and unit executive, Adaptive Solutions Group at BEA Systems. "With WebLogic Real Time, those companies with real-time requirements can stop writing and maintaining their own custom infrastructure code and instead reap the benefits of a standard, Java-based infrastructure, which can include higher developer productivity, fewer defects, a rock-solid proven kernel and adherence to standards, all of which can ultimately help companies enable liquid business."

Additional components in WebLogic Real Time include a version of BEA JRockit which is uniquely enabled with deterministic garbage collection; BEA JRockit Runtime Analyzer (JRA), an on-demand "flight recorder" that produces detailed recordings to analyze application latency; and BEA WebLogic Express Basic Edition, a powerful Java Servlet engine designed to get developers up and running on the BEA WebLogic product line in a cost-effective manner. WLRT now also supports the Sun SPARC architecture.

Today's announcement is the latest in a series of recent innovations BEA has made to its WebLogic product family. Two weeks ago, BEA announced the launch of the WebLogic 9.2 product family, which raised the bar for SOA enablement. In June, BEA announced that WebLogic was officially granted NIST NIAP EAL2 Common Criteria Certification and that BEA JRockit -- running on a two-chip, dual-core Intel Xeon box -- is the world's fastest JVM. Additionally, a recent Gartner report (Market Share: AIM and Portal Software Worldwide 2005, June 6, 2006) ranked BEA Systems first in the worldwide application servers segment based on total software revenue in 2005.
