BMC Software Delivers Industry's First Integration Between Identity Management and Configuration Management Database

BMC Identity Management Suite Delivers Identity-Aware Business Service Management With CMDB Integration, BMC Identity Compliance Manager, and BMC Identity Federation Manager

HOUSTON, Oct. 3 / -- Further expanding its identity management offerings, BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE:BMC), a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced the global availability of BMC(R) Identity Management Suite, version 5.0. Delivering on Phase II of the BMC Identity Management Suite integration blueprint outlined in June of 2005, today's announcement introduces three new products that bolster BMC Software's identity management and Business Service Management (BSM) offerings -- BMC Identity Discovery, BMC Identity Compliance Manager, and BMC Identity Federation Manager.

Responding to growing customer demand for a fully integrated suite of identity management solutions, the updated BMC Identity Management Suite also provides deeper levels of integration and interoperability helping customers to run identity-aware business and IT environments. Through automated processes and improved visibility into the IT infrastructure, the BMC Identity Management Suite allows customers to leverage identity information to proactively address business critical issues such as compliance, authorized access, application security, and data security. Additionally, identity-aware BSM further increases cost savings and improves operational efficiency by creating tighter links between identity management and business services.

"Over the past 24 months we have seen a lot of consolidation in the identity and access management market resulting from customer demand for holistic, integrated solutions. The success of these acquisitions is in the execution and delivery of their integration plans, and we are closely watching the vendors in this area," said Roberta J. Witty, Research Vice President, Gartner, Inc. "We are also seeing a shift in how identity and access management is being used in the business. Companies are looking to incorporate IAM solutions into their business processes and add business value to assist with business critical issues, such as compliance."

The BMC Identity Management Suite is an integrated offering of directory management and visualization, access management, user administration and provisioning, password management and audit and compliance management solutions. In addition to providing customers a broad spectrum of integrated offerings, the now available BMC Identity Management Suite also introduces three new products that leverage the concepts of Business Service Management to help customers attain greater business value and insight from their enterprise identity data.

"Technology solutions that build and maintain an IT infrastructure are no longer sufficient. Customers now need to be able to demonstrate business value of investment in their IT infrastructure, only BMC offers a suite of solutions founded on the principles of ITIL and Business Service Management," said Somesh Singh, vice president and general manager, Identity Management Business Unit, BMC. "We have distinguished ourselves from the competition not only by providing one of the most integrated suites on the market, but also by having the unique ability to leverage identity data across the IT infrastructure to allow our customers to better manage the impact of changes in process and technology on people."

"Having a comprehensive view of our IT infrastructure that recognizes end users as a critical component will help us run a more secure and business- savvy organization," said Gregor Kunz, IT Manager, Manor AG, the largest department store retailer in Switzerland. "BMC recognizes that our needs stretch beyond point products. Their solutions will help us ensure that our IT operations are in lockstep with our business goals all while helping mitigate risk and increasing the security of our users and other sensitive information."

BMC Identity Discovery: Unique to the industry, BMC Identity Discovery allows customers to populate the BMC Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB) with identity data. Aligning identity data with the BMC Atrium CMDB allows customers to directly link hardware and software assets to specific users in an organization for better visibility into the IT enterprise, business processes, and resource allocations. By expanding the view of the IT infrastructure to include people, in addition to hardware, software, and applications, customers can strengthen and enhance services and initiatives around asset and discovery management, change and configuration management, impact and event handling, and service management. In turn, BMC Identity Discovery helps customers use identity information for more effective business process management. Most importantly, with BMC Identity Discovery customers can see which end users are affected by any possible configuration changes, improving business service delivery by reducing risk and outages resulting from changes in the IT environment.

BMC Identity Compliance Manager: Rooted in the principles of ITIL, BSM provides a natural foundation of best practices to address one of today's most pressing business concerns, compliance. BMC today introduces the BMC Identity Compliance Manager enabling customers to proactively prepare for compliance while reducing compliance-oriented costs and resource allocations using automated IT control processes. An identity management-based solution, the BMC Identity Compliance Manager uses a graphical dashboard to report on policy compliance. The solution assists organizations in demonstrating that proper policies and controls are implemented throughout the organization while detailing the alignment of user access and corresponding activities with regulatory mandates including Sarbanes-Oxley, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and others. Through the dashboard, customers track, manage, and archive all policy exceptions helping to proactively identify and prepare for regulatory mandates. Additionally, the BMC Identity Compliance Manager provides customers with an automated workflow to quickly remedy policy exceptions helping customers ensure that systems are always in compliance.

BMC Identity Federation Manager: The BMC Identity Federation Manager helps customers expand the reach of their business through IT by ensuring key stakeholders have the right level of access to key business applications. Bringing trusted parties such as customers, partners, and vendors closer to the business, the BMC Identity Federation Manager allows users to move seamlessly through different domains of resources. In turn, the solution provides organizations with a secure route of communication across entities resulting in increased productivity while addressing security and privacy concerns over authorization, access, and risk management. Making federation simple for customers, the BMC Identity Federation Manager supports more standards and specifications than any other federation offering on the market. SAML 1.0, SAML 2.0, Liberty ID-FF 1.0, WS-Federation (including Microsoft ADFS), and Shibboleth are all supported.

Today's announcement also marks the availability of a seamless end user interface designed to improve the overall user experience by providing a Web based interface that is fully integrated with business process workflow capabilities.
