MetaCarta Unveils GTS Analyst and MetaCarta GTS Version 3.5 Geographic Intelligence Software for the Public Sector

MetaCarta GTS Analyst Provides a Vigilant, Intelligent, Automatic Solution for Analysts

VIENNA, Va., May 8 / / -- MetaCarta, Inc., a leading provider of geographic intelligence solutions, today announced the general availability of GTS Analyst, MetaCarta's newest geographic intelligence solution for the public sector. MetaCarta's Geographic Text Search (GTS) v3.5 will be released concurrently. GTS Analyst combines MetaCarta's revolutionary geographic search technology with an enterprise-strength engine to provide necessary tools to watch standers, investigators and analysts to increase responsiveness and decrease reaction times. GTS Analyst and GTS v3.5 will be introduced and showcased during DODIIS 2006 Annual Convention in Dallas, TX.

MetaCarta GTS Analyst is a map-driven analytical and operational intelligence solution that features saved search with automated search and notification capabilities, region search based on geopolitical areas, and 2-D analysis and visualization for trend analysis. Just like MetaCarta GTS, GTS Analyst bridges the gap between text search and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The product automatically identifies geographic references using advanced natural language processing (NLP) from any type of unstructured content in a customer's archives such as email, Web pages, newswires or cables. GTS Analyst contains Geographic Data Modules (GDM), knowledge bases used to identify and disambiguate geographic references, assign latitude/longitude coordinates, and generate rank. The results of a query are displayed on a map with icons representing the locations found in the natural language text of the documents and as a text results list. Both the icons and text summaries are hyperlinked to the documents they represent.

Analyst-Specific Features

GTS Analyst provides four analyst-specific features that save time, increase productivity and improve the decision making process:

o Saved Search & Notification
Geographic text queries can be saved and executed automatically at scheduled times providing a continual stream of geographic intelligence about a particular location. This eliminates the need for programmatic manual search, increasing productivity and streamlining efficiency. Notification of new intelligence resulting from the queries can be proactively sent to a user or set of users using email, RSS, instant messaging or active browser notification giving users the information they need, when and where they need it.

o Region Search
GTS Analyst goes beyond the rectangular map extent of MetaCarta GTS and allows users to select geopolitical region polygons as a constraint for search. An analyst can select a country, state, province or city, further reducing the amount of time needed to review information to make an actionable decision based on an area of responsibility.

o 2-D Analysis and Visualization
This advanced analysis and visualization feature allows users to see the distribution of an entire geographic text search results set. Users can determine trends and see hotspots, which creates a more complete picture and thus facilitates better decisions.

o Area Watch
The combined use of saved search & notification and region search provides an effective tool to monitor text content within an area of responsibility for watch center personnel. Adding 2-D Analysis and visualization increases the power of this feature to aid in developing a complete situational picture.

"We listened to our intelligence customers during the development process," said Randy Ridley, Vice President and General Manager of Public Sector. "MetaCarta's new GTS Analyst product pulls together the tools needed most by intelligence, defense, and Homeland Security analysts as they sift through mountains of data where geography is relevant and extract actionable intelligence. When lives are at stake and time is of the essence, this advantage is critical."

The release of MetaCarta GTS v3.5 includes a series of improvements, including a new connector framework to support repository specific ingestion modules. MetaCarta will offer initial ingestion modules for EMC/Documentum(TM), Open Text LiveLink(TM) and an Open DataBase Connectivity (ODBC) soon after the v3.5 release. Improvements to the natural language processing within MetaCarta GTS and GeoTagger will take the highest precision and recall rates for geographic terms available on the market to the next level, raising the bar for quality in search and tagging solutions. GTS v3.5 will also ship with a new version of the ESRI ArcGIS Extension for MetaCarta GTS. The ESRI extension offers new ease-of-use and security features including export to an ESRI shapefile, support for Active Directory, improved user interface window docking and collection selection.

GTS Analyst and MetaCarta GTS v3.5 will be available May 2006.
