Kronos Delivers Latest Release of Workforce Central; Extends Its Leadership Position in the Time and Labor Market Through Continuous Improvement of Its Flagship Product

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Mar 17, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Kronos(R) Incorporated (Nasdaq: KRON) today announced the latest release of its flagship Workforce Central(R) suite. Version 4.3 incorporates a number of new features designed to help organizations better manage labor data, reduce labor costs and more efficiently support their time and labor processes.

"We continually strive to optimize the experience of everyone who comes in contact with our system," said Peter George, Kronos chief technology officer. "This release benefits payroll professionals, managers and employees. The most noteworthy enhancements address IT preferences for broader support for entering and tracking time from desktops or kiosks."

The new HTML client for employee self-service offers Kronos customers a new option for lightweight access to time and labor data. The HTML client complements Kronos' existing Java-based Web user interface. "Customers want the best of both worlds," said George. "The industry trend for Web applications is a mixture of HTML and plug-in technology in the browser environment - HTML for light users and Java applets for power users." The Java interface provides a rich and dynamic experience particularly suited to users looking for the utmost in productivity.

Workforce Central also addresses IT's desire for a variety of deployment options, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, and both Microsoft and UNIX based servers. Kronos recently added further support for the Oracle 9i database and DB2 on OS/390. "Kronos is a multi-platform solution," continued George. "The Kronos product suite is engineered to match our customers' existing systems infrastructure. This ensures a smooth and low cost installation and support path."

As customers use a time and labor system such as Workforce Central, the system collects and processes a considerable volume of labor data. With this release of Workforce Central, Kronos introduced an archive utility designed for efficient management of labor data, payroll rules and record retention policies. This significantly reduces the costs associated with managing these labor records.

Additional functionality delivered within Workforce Central addresses the payroll department's desire for increased flexibility with expanded business rules for complex pay policies such as flex time, core hours and personal overtime. New features focus on enforcing compliance with corporate policies when signing off on timecards and overtime approval, eliminating errors before payroll is run. This reduces workarounds such as issuing manual checks.

"The new release of Workforce Central also gives managers and supervisors greater flexibility in performing edits at the badge terminal. In addition to managing data from their desktop computers, managers can add, edit or delete employee punches at the terminal. This allows data entry errors to be corrected at the point of entry," concluded George. "The Kronos system matches the way employees and managers work every day."
