Airvana Launches EV-DO Release 7 to Help Operators Improve Performance of Mobile Broadband Services

Company Delivers Tools to Manage the Rapid Growth in EV-DO Networks

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Nov. 17 -- Airvana, Inc. (NASDAQ:AIRV), the company transforming the mobile experience, today announced the release of the company's latest EV-DO Rev. A software. Generally available now, Release 7 enables mobile operators to gain more visibility into the real-time performance of multimedia services across the mobile broadband network. EV-DO enables mobile broadband Internet, multimedia and entertainment applications for CDMA operators globally.

The widespread adoption of EV-DO smart phones and mobile broadband data cards has generated new opportunities for mobile operators to increase average revenue per user and reduce subscriber churn. These new data and multimedia applications, however, require new sets of tools for monitoring network performance. With Release 7, Airvana provides real-time management information, allowing operators to view key network performance metrics such as throughput and latency across the entire network, in a specific market or geographic area, and even for individual subscriber sessions. This level of visibility makes it easier for operators to pinpoint the source of any service disruption and accelerate problem resolution.

Release 7 also introduces a new Element Management System (EMS) that is based on a high-capacity Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA). The new EMS will allow operators to manage larger networks, with enhanced reliability. In addition Release 7 enhances Airvana's pioneering and patent-pending RNC clustering technology to increase the number of sites, from six to eight, that can be incorporated into a single super-cluster. The RNC is a critical network element that manages subscriber sessions, connects users to an operator's IP network and maintains connectivity as users move across cell boundaries. Increasing the number of RNCs within a cluster greatly expands capacity without introducing the RNC borders that can cause service interruptions.

"EV-DO gives operators tremendous opportunity to continue to deliver innovative mobile broadband services on a very robust network," said David Nowicki, VP of marketing and product management, Airvana. "With Release 7, we're providing important new service quality capabilities to help operators generate a positive experience across the entire subscriber base."

Airvana's Release 7 software is available for new EV-DO network deployments and also as a software upgrade for existing networks. In response to customer demands for expanded EV-DO coverage and advanced services, Airvana continues to innovate and upgrade its EV-DO software for mobile networks worldwide. The company's award-winning IP-based mobile broadband radio network technology is deployed in 70 operator networks and is used by millions of CDMA subscribers worldwide.
