PolyServe Debuts Enhanced Version of Matrix Server Software for Microsoft Windows Data Center Consolidation

Updated Software Also Delivers iSCSI SAN and 64-bit Support

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 12 -- PolyServe, Inc. advances its position as a leading provider of consolidation solutions for mission-critical Microsoft Windows-based applications with the latest release of Matrix Server software, the technology foundation for PolyServe's Database Utility(TM) for Microsoft SQL Server and File Serving Utility(TM). With the update, Microsoft Windows data centers gain significant new advantages in server consolidation initiatives for Microsoft SQL Server and file server environments.

Based on Matrix Server's shared data clustering technology, PolyServe utilities enable companies to greatly reduce IT capital and operating costs by consolidating their SQL Server or Windows file server infrastructures into easy-to-manage, high-performance, unified clusters. In addition to significant updates to the Database Utility for SQL Server and the File Serving Utility, this release bolsters the performance of PolyServe utilities by adding support for 64-bit computing based on Intel® EM64T and AMD Opteron processors. In addition, Matrix Server now supports iSCSI-based storage area networks (SANs), enabling customers to deploy easier-to-manage storage at a lower price point than Fibre Channel SANs. The first iSCSI vendor to be qualified is EqualLogic, a leader in scalable iSCSI storage solutions.

"As the only cluster file system for Microsoft Windows, Matrix Server continues to set the industry standard for mission-critical Windows data centers," said Clark Newby, PolyServe vice president of marketing. "With one-of-a-kind consolidation capabilities and exceptional benefits in price, performance and manageability, our unprecedented technology for the Windows market just got even better."

"Participation in the Intel® Early Access Program has enabled PolyServe to break new ground in 64-bit processing with its solutions for consolidating databases and scalable file serving," said Melissa Laird, general manager of Intel's Developer Relations Division. "As its new Database Utility for SQL Server illustrates, PolyServe is driving the price-performance benefits of Intel® technology into the enterprise data center with high availability and ease of management."

The PolyServe Database Utility for SQL Server consolidates many server nodes and up to 240 SQL Server instances into a single, easy-to-manage cluster, capable of substantially reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) of Microsoft SQL Server. The solution runs native on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for "bare-metal" performance that avoids the performance limitations and overhead penalties of traditional virtualization layers. Every server is protected with automatic instance failover without additional cost or complexity. PolyServe's Dynamic Re-Hosting(TM) capability enables easy hardware upgrades, server maintenance and capacity management without disrupting database service. Consolidated SQL Server deployments gain robust management capabilities with these new features:

o Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, in addition to SQL Server 2000.
o Database snapshots.
o Quick database recovery via database consistency checker (DBCC).
o Scalable read-only database queries.

Coincident with this release, PolyServe is rolling out a professional- services offering to accelerate customers' migration to SQL Server 2005 and a consolidated framework. Through this service, PolyServe significantly reduces the time and risk for customers to be up and running in a consolidated SQL Server 2005 environment.

"This update to PolyServe's File Serving Utility including iSCSI and support for Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, showcases PolyServe's innovating leadership in Windows scalable file serving solutions," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager, Storage Technologies at Microsoft Corporation. "The PolyServe scalable NAS cluster is an excellent solution for high-performance file serving and large-scale Windows file server deployments."

The PolyServe File Serving Utility provides high-performance file serving on scalable shared data, supporting thousands of users without need for data replication. The solution runs native on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003, for a significant price-performance advantage over competing alternatives, and fault tolerant Common Internet File System (CIFS) clients. Storage administration has been greatly eased with the addition of these features:

o Full support for Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Storage Server 2003 R2.
o Shadow copies based on Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) for seamless data backup and recovery.
o Array-based cluster-aware shadow copies for HP EVA storage.
o Advisory and enforceable quotas for enhanced storage resource management.
o A new "storage" control tab for one-click capacity monitoring and storage management.
o Large share count to support consolidation of thousands of users onto a single File Serving Utility.
