New ELI® Program Develops Skills for Values-Based Leadership

ATLANTA, May 16 - ELI expands its Civil Treatment® series of programs with the release of NextACT(TM): Skills for Values-Based Leadership. The program, which builds on concepts presented in ELI's flagship Civil Treatment for Managers course, gives managers additional skills to help them integrate organizational values into the workplace culture.

"Our clients have told us that when it comes to workplace treatment and behavioral issues, their managers understand what the law says," says ELI president Stephen M. Paskoff, Esq." Now they're ready for the next level. In NextACT, we build on that legal foundation and give them tools and hands-on practice to carry out their responsibilities."

While NextACT reminds managers of key legal requirements related to workplace harassment and discrimination, it focuses on aligning behavior with the organization's values. Participants learn through interactive discussion, video scenarios, and role-play activities how to recognize and handle a range of inappropriate and disruptive behaviors, and what steps to take to create a welcoming environment for employee concerns. They also practice communication skills such as delivering messages about the importance of and business rationale for operating by the values.

"From subtle issues to bullying and abuse, a variety of behaviors - some illegal, some not - are harming the workplace," notes Paskoff. "Managers must have the skills to recognize and address day-to-day issues on their own rather than escalating everything to Human Resources."

Modular in format, NextACT can be delivered over the course of several sessions or in one full-day class, facilitated by ELI instructors or an organization's own in-house ELI-certified instructors. Program participants receive a comprehensive reference manual with legal guidelines, action planning tools, a communications calendar, and related job aids.
