Enhanced Avantis Condition Monitoring Solution from Invensys Facilitates Real-Time, Proactive Maintenance

New advanced analytics provide effective early warning system for plant maintenance and operations

CHICAGO, IL, USA (National Manufacturing Week) - March 7, 2005 - The Avantis unit of Invensys Process Systems today introduced enhanced condition monitoring (CM) software that further empowers plant operations and maintenance personnel to work collaboratively and improve asset reliability. The enhanced Avantis condition monitoring solution not only collects and aggregates real-time data from plant floor systems, but also provides sophisticated analysis of that data to drive preventive and predictive maintenance activity.

"Traditional predictive and condition monitoring systems collect real-time data, but leave it to the end user to interpret and act on underlying trends and cryptic diagnostics. Our latest Avantis condition monitoring solution provides an intuitive configuration tool, matched with a powerful analytic engine, expert system capabilities, and workflow management. The end result is an intelligent work package, containing all pertinent information to safely execute the required maintenance activity," said Neil Cooper, general manager of the Avantis unit of Invensys Process Systems.

Based on Microsoft.NET software technology, the CM software leverages data from industry-leading plant historians, modeling engines and field device monitoring solutions. It is also built for compliance with OPC Foundation standards, which simplifies integration with other advanced monitoring technology.

The enhanced CM solution improves asset management by providing an early warning system that allows organizations to move beyond simple calendar based maintenance, into a proactive, asset-performance based maintenance environment. Consequently, the deployment of maintenance resources and material requirements can be planned in a more efficient and cost effective manner.

The solution also empowers operators by providing the ability to track maintenance activity associated with an asset, without leaving the operational environment. The operator could, for example, view in real time how effectively equipment is performing in relation to expected or ideal conditions and trigger immediate corrective action as required.

Real-Time Condition Monitoring is a cornerstone of the Invensys plant asset management solution. The solution combines best of breed enterprise asset management (EAM) software from Avantis with the automation expertise of Foxboro, Triconex, SimSci-Esscor and Wonderware.
