New Factory Intelligence Software Collects and Stores Production Data from Legacy Equipment

Non-PLC and older PLC equipment no longer silent

WEST BERLIN, N.J., May 28, 2004 - Factory Intelligence Network (FIN) LLC has developed a software system that enables plant personnel to collect and store operating data from legacy production equipment. The FIN Factory Intelligence system can collect data from equipment without PLCs (programmable logic controllers), with older PLCs that don't have data collection capabilities, and from PLC-enabled equipment and control systems. Plant personnel can then use this data to monitor production in real-time, and store the data indefinitely for future reference, trending, and analysis.

The Factory Intelligence system can also provide a means to tie legacy equipment into an existing control system so that plant personnel can monitor all the equipment in their various production lines. The software provides the tools needed to diagnose line problems and product issues, and managers can perform this analysis and trending from the comfort of their office or home. Users can also have the system Internet enabled to monitor operations in real-time from remote locations.

FIN's Factory Intelligence system is an affordable, user-friendly alternative to data historian packages, which are developed primarily for use by engineers. FIN's client-server based software is designed to be used by plant management and other designated operations personnel. The software runs on standard, Windows(r)-based PCs and comes pre-configured to integrate with the plant's existing production equipment and control systems.

"Many managers of small and mid-sized plants will attest that there is nothing wrong with the productivity of their legacy equipment," said Ron Iannacone, president of FIN. "Many times the equipment is still reliable, functions at or above satisfactory levels, and is paid off. There is no justification for getting rid of it just to gain the ability to collect and store data. Factory Intelligence software gives this production equipment a way to communicate and contribute to overall plant efficiency."
