Novell Delivers First Linux-Based, Cross-Platform Systems Management Suite

New version of award-winning ZENworks suite provides full lifecycle management for Linux and Windows systems

SALT LAKE CITY (BrainShare® 2005) — March 21, 2005 — Novell today introduced Novell® ZENworks® 7 Suite, the newest version of its award-winning systems management suite. ZENworks 7 is the first systems management solution that allows organizations to manage their Windows* workstations from a Linux* platform. It is also the first solution to automate the complete lifecycle of Linux systems. As a result, organizations can now centrally manage their Windows and Linux assets from their choice of server platforms.

“IT managers need solutions for managing across heterogeneous environments,” said Fred Broussard, IDC research manager. “The ability to manage Windows workstations from SUSE® LINUX servers can make Novell ZENworks 7 a well-suited choice for IT organizations running Windows, Linux or both.”

Novell ZENworks provides a comprehensive set of integrated tools that automate IT management processes across the lifecycle of desktops, laptops, servers and handhelds. Novell ZENworks uses Policy-Driven Automation to automatically maintain and enforce business and IT policies and dynamically manage and maintain resources based on user and device identities.

The inclusion of the recently announced Novell ZENworks 7 Linux Management extends the Suite's cross-platform capabilities with the industry's only complete lifecycle management for Linux platforms. The addition of imaging, configuration lockdown, remote management, inventory and software management enables organizations to quickly and easily deploy, manage and maintain Linux in their IT environment to lower their total cost of IT operations. In addition to ZENworks 7 Linux Management and Windows desktop management from a Linux server, ZENworks 7 Suite also includes support for Novell Open Enterprise Server and enhancements to the Desktop, Server and Handheld Management products. Health First Supervisor of Corporate Systems Dan Tesenair said, “ZENworks gives us a fantastic return on our investment today. We're looking forward to ZENworks 7 to provide us the same efficient automation, centralized management and cost savings as we deploy Linux desktops and servers.”

David Litwack, Novell senior vice president and general manager for Identity-Driven Products, said, “No other systems management vendor provides customers this level of choice for managing heterogeneous environments. ZENworks 7 can provide the ability to deploy Linux faster and more efficiently and should be part of any organization's migration to Linux.”

Pricing and Availability

ZENworks 7 Suite is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2005, and details on pricing will be announced at general availability. For more information about ZENworks, please visit http://www.novell.com/products/zenworks.
