Next generation solution offers unparalleled flexibility in design and delivery of personalized content; available now

CARLSBAD, Calif., Aug.9 -- Document Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ:DOCX) today announced the availability of xPression® 3, the next generation of its acclaimed suite of customer communications management solutions. With xPression 3, highly personalized customer communications are designed using Microsoft® Word, Adobe® InDesign®, or Adobe Dreamweaver®. At publish time, these communications can be customized, assembled in batch or real-time using multiple templates and data sources, and delivered via email, Web and/or print. Document Sciences leads the market in providing customer communications management solutions for personalizing contracts, policies, statements, performance reports, correspondence and other critical client communications.

"Companies increasingly want to maximize revenue opportunities by optimizing the customer experience through the creation of highly personalized communications on-demand, in real-time, for distribution to a variety of customer-preferred delivery channels" said Jack McGannon, President and CEO of Document Sciences. "Our strategic investment over the past years to develop the most advanced suite of customer communications management solutions has placed xPression 3 at the forefront of the marketplace."

xPression 3 benefits include:
o Faster Time-to-Market. Produce customized statements, contracts, letters,
emails, Web landing pages and marketing collaterals, from concept to
production, in 50% - 75% less time using open design tools and a powerful
document generation infrastructure.

o Improved customer experience. Generate interactive, real-time
communications that are highly personalized and customized for
distribution and presentation in customer-preferred formats and delivery
channels, whether it is email, Web and/or printed materials.

o Greater agent and advisor satisfaction. Enable insurance agents and
financial advisors to create customized documents that combine relevant
information, up-to-the-minute customer data, and the most effective
layout, in real-time.

o Increased efficiency. Streamline productivity through integration with
existing enterprise systems, providing asset management, document
workflow, content retrieval and document storage.

o Technology consolidation. Unify all document generation on the same
platform to produce email, personalized Web presence, and printed
materials, thus eliminating the need to use separate systems for printed
materials and electronic communications.

Built on an open, service-oriented architecture using J2EE, Web Services, Microsoft .NET and XML standards, xPression 3 tightly integrates with ECM, CRM, Document Management, Claims Processing, Digital Asset Management, portal applications, workflows, and relational databases.

Key features of xPression 3 include:

o Debut of xPresso(TM) for Word -- Use Microsoft Word 2007 with the xPresso
plug-in to design personalized letters, proposals, and other documents
for publishing on-demand and in high-volume batch, in virtually any
desired format.

color, images, and gradients.

o xDesign -- Enhancements include the ability to incorporate one or more
xPresso for Adobe InDesign and xPresso for Word documents into an xDesign
master document, providing the ability to produce packages of varied
documents per customer.

build customized solutions that incorporate xPression 3 document
generation capabilities.

PDF output, including check boxes, text boxes, and combo boxes.

different sub-documents at the same time and then package them together
into a master document.

o EMC® Documentum® Certified -- Integration with the EMC Documentum
platform provides bi-directional connectivity to pull content from
Documentum for publishing and also archive finished documents, as well as
integrate with business process management.

o Integration with IBM® FileNet® P8 V4 -- Integration with P8 Content
Server and Process Server enables users to manage content in a single
repository while delivering highly personalized communications.

o Advanced Data Mapping -- Streamline the document generation process by
