New Software Appliance by Composite Software and Motio Automates Key Business Intelligence (BI) Steps
New Composite BI Accelerator(TM) Reduces Time Required for Data Discovery, Data Modeling and Testing Phases
Composite BI Accelerator(TM) automates major BI steps: requirements gathering, data analysis, report development, plus production and maintenance.
Self-contained appliance is optimized for IBM-Cognos BI environments.
SAN MATEO, CALIF. and DALLAS -May 11, 2009 - Composite Software, Inc., the data virtualization leader, and Motio, Inc., the recognized leader in providing advanced software for IBM-Cognos BI deployments, today began shipping the new Composite BI Accelerator(TM). Jointly developed by Composite and Motio, the Composite BI Accelerator automates currently cumbersome tasks in the BI lifecycle. The initial release, a self-contained appliance, has been optimized for IBM-Cognos environments. This is the first end-to-end solution that automates steps throughout the BI process.
"BI and data virtualization are naturally complementary technologies," said Composite CEO Jim Green. "What led us to work with Motio to develop the new Composite BI Accelerator is the staggering statistic that BI users spend an industry average ratio of 6:1 on their cost of services to the cost of licensing. These high costs, combined with the time delays typically associated with BI implementations, are among the major obstacles to enterprises realizing the value of their BI. We wanted to begin reducing some of these barriers with this new release."
Added Motio CEO Lynn Moore, "Cognos' users are challenged to overcome their data complexity on the front end and achieve operational excellence on the back end. By combining Composite's powerful data discovery capabilities with Motio's enhanced BI operational performance functionality, we're delivering a new product that helps Cognos' users meet both these challenges."
A Feb. 20, 2009 Forrester Research, Inc. report, "BI Belt Tightening in a Tough Economic Climate," estimates that "...at least 80 percent of any BI effort lies in data sourcing, data integration, data cleansing and modeling, which are steps that do not offer a cheap and quick work-around." Written by Principal Analyst Boris Evelson, the report is available for purchase at http://www.forrester.com/Research/Document/Excerpt/0,7211,47465,00.html.
Further validating the market need for automated data discovery, IBM last week announced that it intended to buy the assets of Exeros, a privately-held company based in Santa Clara, Calif., that provides leading data discovery software. Mark Smith, CEO and EVP Research, Ventana Research, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based independent industry analyst firm, summarized the acquisition in his May 5, 2009 blog: "This acquisition of Exeros technology assets, though small in size from a customer, product and people perspective, is a sizable event for IBM who had for many years not recognized the fundamental importance of this technology category." http://www.ventanaresearch.com/blog/commentblog.aspx?id=3126
