Samtec Introduces Rugged Socket for Use with Silicon USB Blades

Samtec has recently introduced its new SiliconBlade Socket designed for use with the rugged ultra-small, high performance SiliconDrive II USB Blade, alternative to SD and MMC cards. This patent pending system is designed to help save valuable board space in embedded storage system applications. Additional available pins allow several high speed system configurations such as SD, SATA, PCI Express, XAUI or Fiber Channel.

The lightweight, vertical SiliconBlade Socket (SBS Series) offers user-friendly USB Blade insertion and extraction while consuming less PCB space. It features Samtec's Rugged, High Speed Edge Rate contact system which is designed for Signal Integrity with superior impedance control and reduced broadside coupling as well as vibration dampening features.

Additional rugged features also help make the SiliconBlade system ideal for military, industrial, and other high reliability applications. Deep polarizing guide rails add mechanical support and assure proper USB Blade insertion, while polarizing posts add stability and assure proper socket placement. In addition, a latching system that solders to the PCB and includes anti-stress features adds socket attachment strength and stability.

Pricing begins at $ .065 per pin in productions quantities.
