John Deere 280 Skid Steer Emerges as "Boss" of the Worksite

The new John Deere 280 skid steer meets a growing demand for more powerful skid steers that are easy to run and comfortable for the operator. The 280 emerges on the worksite as largest of the 200 Series that now includes the 240, 250, 260, 270 and the 280.

Equipped with a John Deere 4045T turbo-charged engine, the 280 boasts 90 gross horsepower. With a rated operating capacity of 3,200 lbs. and 11,600 lbs. of bucket breakout force, the 280 is ready for the toughest lifting jobs. The new 280 has a servo-controlled, hydrostatic four-wheel drive transmission and an optional two-speed transmission available for increased productivity and transport speeds.

The 200 Series patented vertical lift system provides greater reach for precise center load placement and efficient truck loading. The 280 has a dump height of 127 inches and the boom cylinders are cushioned to ensure extra smooth machine operation.

The signature design of the John Deere 200 Series Skid Steer lineup remains constant with the 280. This means important 360-degree operator visibility for safe and productive operation. New boom design greatly enhances bucket edge and corner visibility. A quick-lift cab, removable side panels and an easy-access rear door mean faster servicing and reduced downtime.

In addition to the superior visibility inherent in the John Deere design, other features, adding safety and convenience, include convenient operator controls and a built-in boom safety lock.

As with all John Deere 200 Series skid steers, the 280 features a triple- interlock operator presence system. This means that the operator must be securely in the seat, with seat belt fastened and parking brake disengaged prior to being able to actuate the boom or attachment. The hydraulic parking brake never needs adjustment and automatically engages when the seat belt is unfastened, the operator leaves the seat, or the skid steer engine is turned off. Boom locks activated from within the cab allow the operator to safely secure a raised boom before exiting.

Operator comfort is also key to the design of this new 280 skid steer. Servo-controlled, low-effort steering levers, in combination with patent- pending standard adjustable armrests, adjustable foot pedals and an optional suspension seat, maximize control and minimize operator fatigue. Operators will find these benefits make the new 280 a dream to run. Massive machine specifications, ease of operation and all the qualities already synonymous with the 200 series make the new 280 skid steer bigger, better, distinctively John Deere.
