November 26, 2007 - By eliminating need for negative rail, ISL59451/ISL59452 triple 4:1 buffered multiplexers simplify design of high-end video products. Both ICs suit systems where video input is only feature requiring negative rail. While ISL59451 offers integrated dc-restore feature, ISL59452 is designed for ac-coupled systems. Parts let users choose between ac or dc coupling video into 0-5 V range and can also be used as input stage. They offer 250 MHz of bandwidth and sub-pixel switching rates.

Intersil Debuts New Single-Supply Multiplexers that Deliver Increased Design Flexibility and Cost Savings for High-End Video Applications

- First Buffered Triple 4:1 Single-Supply MUXs in the Industry, the ISL5945X Allow Customers to Choose Between AC and DC-Coupled Designs

MILPITAS, CA, Nov. 7, 2007 - Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog semiconductors, today announced two new single-supply, triple 4:1 buffered multiplexers, designed for use in high-end consumer video products. The two new ICs are the ISL59451, which offers an integrated DC-restore feature and the ISL59452, which is designed for AC-coupled systems.

The ISL59451 and ISL59452 are the first single-supply, buffered triple 4:1 multiplexers in the industry. This feature set is important for consumer customers designing systems where video input is the only feature requiring a negative rail. By eliminating the need for a negative rail, these ICs will help simplify the design of such products as projectors, high-definition TVs and broadcast equipment, and will save board space and cost for ODMs (Original Device Manufacturers).

The ISL59451's integrated DC-restore feature lifts the video signal above ground and into the operating range of the multiplexer, ensuring the video is in the correct voltage range for processing and a high-quality video signal will result. For systems using an AC-coupled design, the ISL59452 is offered without the integrated DC-restore feature and at a slightly lower price. Using these parts, customers can choose between AC or DC coupling video into the 0V to 5V range, while maintaining the excellent video characteristics from the multiplexer that are usually associated with ±5V performance.

These parts can also be used as an input stage, where multiple channels of video are coming into a device (such as a projector) but only one channel needs to be selected at any one time.

Features Highlights of the ISL59451 and ISL59452:

250MHz of bandwidth, enough to support high resolution video signals
Ability to drive 150 Ã(TM) video loads for the many applications that require double terminated loads, to cut down on reflections
Sub-pixel switching rates which enable switching between video signals without pixel loss-an important capability for supporting picture-in-picture features
Output gain selectable between x1 or x2, enabling the part to drive either 75 or 150 loads, without the need for an additional amplification stage
Ability to support high impedance output, allowing several of these parts to have their output tied together to form a much larger MUX
Compact QFN package with thermal slug. Excellent thermal performance, coupled with a tiny footprint make the new MUXs well-suited for today's space-constrained consumer applications.

Pricing and Availability
The ISL59451 is available in 32 Ld 5x5 QFN packaging in quantities of 100-999 for $6.49. The ISL59452, offered in the same packaging and quantities, is priced at $4.88.
