Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. Introduces New Wide Input Voltage Range High-Efficiency Fault Tolerant Single String LED Driver

Designed for Automotive and Consumer Backlighting LCD Displays

Worcester, MA - Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. introduces a new single-output white LED (WLED) driver designed for backlighting LCD displays for both automotive and consumer designs and the associated application, performance and protection requirements. Allegro's A8513 integrates a current-mode boost converter with an internal power switch and one current sink. It is a robust solution for applications such as automotive infotainment, cluster, and center-stack, industrial LCD displays, portable DVD players, flatbed scanners, and LED lighting.

The A8513 can operate from a single power supply from 4.5 to 40 V, to accommodate start/stop, cold crank, and load dump requirements. A 2 MHz boost converter switching frequency allows the A8513 to operate above the AM radio band. If required, the fault flag can be used as part of a circuit to drive an external P-FET to disconnect the input supply from the system in the event of a fault. The device provides protection against output short and overvoltage, open or shorted diode, open or shorted LED pin, shorted boost switch or inductor, shorted ISET resistor, and IC overtemperature. A dual level cycle-by cycle current limit function provides soft start and protects the internal current switch against high current overloads.

Allegro's A8513 is supplied in both eMSOP-10 and eTSSOP-16 packages. These devices will be offered in various oscillator frequencies - please contact Allegro for further details. Pricing in quantities of 1,000 is shown below:
- A8513KYLTR-T: $1.18
- A8513KLPTR-T: $1.25
