Avanex Introduces a Single-Mode Pump Laser Diode Product Family

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 21 -- Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next-generation optical networks, today introduced a high performance 980nm single-mode pump laser diode product family.

The PowerIntense(TM) family of products has industry-leading output powers of 2.5 watts and 1.4 watts at 25 degrees C and 75 degrees C, respectively. These lasers are key components in pump modules used in optical amplifiers for metro, long-haul and submarine communication networks.

"The leading-edge performance of the PowerIntense laser chips further reinforces our industry leadership position in metro and long-haul amplification modules and subsystems by allowing us to develop solutions that are smaller and require less power at a lower cost," said Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa, chief technology officer of Avanex.

"In addition, these new lasers exceed the reliability and performance requirements of the submarine market, allowing us the opportunity to have substantial participation in the coming market for undersea optical repeaters," said Barbarossa.

The PowerIntense product family is qualified to meet telecommunication industry standards.

These innovative products will be displayed at the 32nd European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication Conference (ECOC) September 25 - 27 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. Avanex will be presenting in Booth 276.
