Dana's Spicer® Axles Designed to Increase Productivity of Medium-Duty Trucks & Buses

HANNOVER, Germany - Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) today introduced its Spicer® G140 series of single-drive, medium-duty axles to the global marketplace at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Expo here. The axle, on display in Hall 17, Booth B27, is specifically engineered to improve fuel economy, reduce maintenance costs, enhance operator comfort, increase payload, and boost overall vehicle productivity.

Now available, Spicer G140 series single-reduction axles are ideally suited for straight truck chassis up to 15 tons Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR), including city and regional distribution trucks, mini buses, shuttle buses, rescue vehicles, and municipal and utility vehicles.

"Throughout the development of the Spicer G140 Series, we focused our efforts on helping medium-duty fleet owners optimize the productivity of their fleets," said Steve Slesinski, director of product management for the Dana Commercial Vehicle Products Group. "With this series, Dana continues to enhance its reputation as the leader in delivering advanced drive axle technology and superior value for the medium-duty market."

Spicer G140 Series axles are 38.5 kg (85 lb) lighter, compared with previous Dana medium-duty axles and 45 kg (100 lb) lighter, compared with competitive axles, helping to improve fuel economy, provide additional payload capability, and offset weight gained from on-board emission systems. With 32 percent less lubrication required overall, these axles are easier to maintain and environmentally friendly.
Spicer G140 Series axles also offer 23 millimeters additional ground clearance, while improving NVH performance by nearly 240 percent over other axles with similar GAWR.

Optimized to perform in vehicles with drivetrain ratings up to 1,100 Nm (860 lb-ft) of torque and up to 300 horsepower, Spicer G140 Series axles are designed to support Gross Combination Weight Ratings (GCWR) up to 20 tons and typical GVWR up to 14 tons in most vocational applications. Maximum GCWR of 22.5 tons and GVWR of 15 tons are available under specific Dana application approvals.

Spicer G140 Series axles are also available with a number of options for prime operation, including a carrier-integrated parking brake or electromagnetic retarder mount; a wide-track design for maximum stability; a patented axle breather design supplying unrestricted air flow and minimizing the risk of seal leaks due to axle pressurization; and integral, welded suspension brackets for increased strength and durability.
