Magsoft Plugs Into the System World

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y., March 20 -- Magsoft Corporation announces the release of Portunus V1.3. Portunus is system level simulation software which was developed in cooperation with Adapted Solutions of Chemnitz, Germany and Cedrat of Grenoble, France.

Portunus is an innovative schematic capture tool which boasts an easy to use graphical interface. Unique visualization features facilitate the following:

-- Layout of the components
-- Character of the components
-- Controls for parameter variations
-- Simulation validation
-- Post processing of solutions

Portunus comes with a standard component library. This library also includes a variety of components for electromechanical devices; equivalent device behavior is simulated using lumped-parameter models.

Portunus is particularly well suited for electrical, mechanical and thermal systems. In general, it can handle systems requiring differential-algebraic relationships, state-machine descriptions and time-dependent expressions. Portunus allows one to utilize the following description approaches:

-- Typical schematic capture or graphical network description
-- Net lists
-- Block diagrams
-- State machines

A user can construct the detailed nature of a particular system and utilize any combination of these approaches to describe the various sub-systems. The use of multiple sub-sheets assists with the clarity of the system definition. This flexibility makes it possible for a variety of hybrid systems to be clearly represented and simulated.

Once the system has been fully described, the user then declares the nature of the analysis desired. Analysis types include:

-- Time domain transient
-- Frequency domain
-- Operating Point
-- Steady State

Shep Salon President of Magsoft Corporation had this to say regarding the new Portunus release, "We are very excited by the capabilities of the Portunus product, and particularly as it pertains to the system level nature of behavior associated with electromechanical devices. The future coupling between our Flux finite element software and the Portunus system level software will allow our users to do fully coupled time domain, transient simulations. Some day soon we anticipate that this will be done real-time, and this will really revolutionize the world as we know it."
