Suitable for cooling and insulating electrical machinery such as power generators, POWERSIL® Fluid TR20 features low viscosity of 20 mm²/sec with flashpoint of 240°C and ignition point of 270°C. Fluid is resistant to oxidation and offers cold start capability. With pour point below -50°C, product is beneficial when applied to wind turbines.

K 2010: WACKER Introduces New Silicone Fluid POWERSIL® Fluid TR20
WACKER, the Munich-based chemical company, will present a new insulating fluid for high-performance transformers at the 18th International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber (K 2010). The silicone-based product, newly marketed under the brand name, POWERSIL® Fluid TR20, is suitable for cooling and insulating high-quality electrical machinery because it retains its low viscosity over a wide temperature range. K 2010 will take place from October 27 to November 3 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Transformers produce a lot of heat when in operation. As heat-transfer media, coolants are indispensable for dissipating this energy. For many years now, WACKER has offered silicone-based insulating fluids with exceptional oxidation resistance and thermal stability for this purpose.
The latest product from the WACKER laboratories is POWERSIL® Fluid TR20. The insulating fluid has a very low viscosity of 20 mm2 per second. With a flashpoint of 240 °C and ignition point of 270 °C, it has properties that guarantee its reliability when used in electrical machinery, including power generators.
In addition, the fluid has an extraordinary cold start capability. Its pour point is below -50°C which is a decisive advantage when applied to wind turbines. And since POWERSIL® Fluid TR20 has such low viscosity even at low temperatures, the transformer will always be in working order.
Furthermore, the new silicone fluid is extremely resistant to oxidation, giving electrical machinery a significantly longer service life. POWERSIL® Fluid TR20 also lends itself to all other applications that must cope with a high energy density and where huge amounts of heat must be dissipated rapidly. The insulating fluid is also ideally suited to face the challenges of electrical mobility.
