Silicon Carbide Parts are nitride bonded.

Press Release Summary:

Nitron Parts include riser tubes and rotary degassers for molten aluminum, nozzles for copper and aluminum, and desulferization nozzles for coal burning power plants. Net shape forming process enables manufacture of complex ceramic shapes with varying wall thickness, and produces high dimensional accuracy, with tolerances better than ±0.5%, eliminating need for machining or finishing work. Because of micro-porosity, parts offer resistance to metal penetration.

Blasch Launches Nitron(TM) Line of High-Precision Nitride-Bonded Silicon Carbide Parts

ALBANY, NY (Feb. 13) - A new line of high-precision nitride-bonded silicon carbide parts has been introduced by Blasch Precision Ceramics.

Blasch's new Nitron parts include riser tubes and rotary degassers for molten aluminum, nozzles for copper and aluminum, and desulfurization nozzles for coal burning power plants. Additional products are under development.

The new parts are made possible by Blasch's net shape forming process that
o enables the manufacture of complex ceramic shapes with varying wall thickness,
o produces high dimensional accuracy, typically with tolerances better than ±0.5%, eliminating the need for expensive machining or finishing work,
o results, because of micro-porosity, in high resistance to metal penetration, and
o exhibits uniform properties in both small (< 1 kg) and large (100 kg) shaped ceramic components.

"The Blasch process allows us to easily produce shapes that are extremely difficult or impossible to produce through other processes," said Mike Hanagan, Manager of New Product & Process Development, from Blasch Precision Ceramics. "In addition, since our net-shape process eliminates the need for expensive diamond machining of nitride-bonded silicon carbide parts, we can deliver better parts at lower cost."

Founded in 1979, Blasch Precision Ceramics serves a variety of manufacturing and processing industries throughout the world, providing innovative, customized solutions for chemically difficult or high temperature applications.
