Eastman Announces Commercialization of Embrace High Yield

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Feb. 17, 2006 Eastman Chemical Company has announced the commercial availability of Embrace High Yield in North America. Embrace High Yield shrink film is an extension of the company's Embrace shrink film that was launched in 1999.

"Embrace High Yield complements our existing Embrace shrink film," said Chris Frank, field market development manager for Eastman's specialty plastics business. "The functionality benefits of Embrace High Yield include soft hand and low noise quality that will ultimately enhance both shelf appeal and the consumer experience. It is also unique for its intrinsic material attributes, providing natural UV blocking capabilities and easy label separation for bottle recyclability. With the addition of Embrace High Yield, we can address needs across various market segments."

Commercialized in late December 2005, Embrace High Yield shrink film is particularly advantageous for light sensitive products, such as dairy and prefilled beverages, due to its intrinsic UV blocking capabilities. Embrace High Yield is manufactured by combining Embrace shrink film with 15 percent to 30 percent Embrace High Yield 1000 compound. When stretched, Embrace High Yield creates a white, opaque micro-voided shrink film. It can have a specific gravity below 1.0 g/cc, a density property that facilitates the unproblematic separation of labels in the PET recycling stream to enable enhanced recyclability.

Labels created using Embrace High Yield are soft to the touch, easy to grip, halogen-free and offer excellent opacity. Embrace High Yield maintains the same superior attributes and benefits for Embrace shrink film including high ultimate shrinkage for adhering to contoured or unique containers and maintaining the shrink curve at onset temperature. Embrace High Yield offers excellent printability and design flexibility for maximum shelf appeal.
