QNX Launches New Services Program to Help Automotive Suppliers and OEMs Meet Critical Deadlines

OTTAWA, Oct. 14 /-- QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the in-car telematics and infotainment market, today announced its new QNX Automotive Solutions program for automotive Tier One suppliers and OEMs. The program offers a team of highly experienced QNX engineers who work closely with customer development teams during the planning and design phases to ensure that critical projects start and finish on time and on budget.

With hundreds of person years' experience in automotive software development, support, and integration, the QNX Automotive Solutions team offers a variety of services, including architecture reviews and recommendations, technology prototyping, developing and optimizing device drivers, improving boot times, reducing memory use, enhancing system reliability and stability, customizing QNX software components to meet application-specific requirements, optimizing CPU usage to achieve optimal performance, and prioritized product deliveries.

"It is absolutely critical for car infotainment and telematics projects to start and finish on time, which is far easier said than done given the growing demand to support location-based services, off-board connectivity, and integration with personal consumer electronics," said John Wall, director of automotive solutions, QNX Software Systems. "QNX has been on the front lines of in-car computing for more than a decade, and the expertise of our engineers can be as critical as our software in bringing new applications to market on time. With this program, we offer suppliers direct access to highly qualified and experienced engineers that can give them the edge they need to meet critical OEM delivery milestones."

The services offered by the QNX Automotive Solutions team are already paying dividends for Tier One suppliers. Case in point: A system developed by a Tier One supplier was booting too slowly to meet the requirements of the supplier's OEM. The QNX team performed an in-depth analysis of the system's CPU usage and recommended code optimizations that achieved the required boot performance. The intervention kept the project on time and on budget, potentially saving the supplier millions of dollars in penalties and lost revenue.

Building on its long-standing status as the provider of choice for automotive Tier One suppliers for in-car computing designs, QNX created QNX Automotive Solutions because of the growing complexity of media-rich in-car computing systems. Today, more than 200 car models worldwide use QNX middleware and operating systems to power an array of telematics and infotainment products - everything from hands-free cell phone kits to high-end multimedia and navigation systems.
