Oracle Delivers Key Communications Industry Milestone with Release of Carrier-Grade Oracle® Communication and Mobility Server
Offering Brings Internet-Speed Development Capabilities to the Communications Industry
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Feb. 5 // -- Building on the company's proven track record for delivering business value to the communications industry, Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) today announced a key product milestone in the Oracle(R) Service Delivery Platform (SDP) roadmap -- Oracle Communication and Mobility Server (OCMS). A component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, OCMS includes a third generation, programmable Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Presence application server; proxy and registrar services; and a SIP-based VoIP soft phone client. OCMS combines carrier-grade scalability and reliability with the flexibility of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to enable rapid service development and cost-effective deployment.
Communications service providers (CSPs) today face mounting competitive pressures due to declining revenues from traditional telephony services and increased demand for new, innovative communications services. In response to these pressures, many CSPs are turning to established, standards-based enterprise IT techniques, such as Service Oriented-Architectures and the power of internet-speed development. Oracle Communication and Mobility Server provides CSPs with a carrier-grade infrastructure for building new revenue-generating services while delivering the benefits of a standards-based J2EE platform. Extending the communications capabilities of Oracle Fusion Middleware, OCMS can readily interface with communications networks and existing Business Support Systems (BSS) and Operational Support Systems (OSS).

Oracle Communication and Mobility Server enables developers to easily build, deploy and manage complex, converged applications that combine SIP and Web capabilities on a single platform. OCMS provides several enhancements to the Oracle SDP. Key features of OCMS include:
o J2EE-based SIP application server -- IMS-ready, scalable, hardened
development and deployment platform, implementing industry standard
programming models including SIP Servlet API (JSR 116), EJB, JDBC, JMS
and JNDI in a single execution environment;
o Full-featured IMS Presence Server -- SIP/SIMPLE and Open Mobile Alliance
(OMA) presence enabler-compliant server, ready for deployment in IMS
networks;
o Embedded Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database -- Delivers proven,
carrier-grade availability and real-time performance without database
administration;
o SIP-based soft phone client -- Customizable SIP-client enables CSPs to
easily re-brand; supports integrated communications including instant
messaging, VoIP and video calling; and interoperates with other standard
SIP-based messaging clients;
o Out-of-the-box capabilities -- Includes support for Authentication,
Authorization and Accounting (AAA) through Radius and Diameter;
registrar and proxy servers, which allow immediate creation of IMS and
pre-IMS networks for VoIP; and,
o Hot-pluggable -- Allows J2EE developers to build and integrate
SIP-enabled applications into their existing J2EE platforms, without the
need to replace their existing Web/J2EE infrastructure.
