Industrial Ethernet Networking of RS-485 Devices

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Phoenix Contact introduces a new device server that easily adapts RS-485 serial devices to industrial Ethernet networks. The FL-Com Server RS-485 interface offers easy integration of virtually any RS-485 device onto industrial 10/100BASE-T(X) networks, therefore allowing access to any device with a serial port.

The rugged FL-Com Server provides users with industrial features such as: wide-range DC power supply, DIN-rail mounting, three-way isolation, surge protection and redundant power supply capabilities.

Measuring just 22.5mm wide, the server supports all common protocols, including TCP/IP, PPP, 3964R and the various Modbus protocols. The user can inquire on system status, transmit visualization data, initiate program or firmware downloads and perform remote maintenance.

Set-up is done easily through popular web-based browsers such as Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator. The Com Server is equipped with COM Redirector and Factory Manager software, which allow Ethernet access to serial devices on the network as if they were connected to local COM ports on a PC.
