MSA Announces Z Gard(TM) DS Sensor for Economical and Reliable CO and NO2 Detection

Z Gard DS Sensors are the latest product offering from the MSA Instrument Division. Designed to detect the presence of carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide gases in a variety of applications including parking garages and vehicle storage areas, Z Gard DS Sensors offer the perfect blend of cost-effectiveness and high-performance.

The Z Gard DS Sensor features electrochemical sensors and is available with two output options: an addressable RS-485 digital signal, or separate 4-20mA analog outputs. The Z Gard DS Sensor with RS-485 digital output is specifically designed to operate as a system with any Z Gard C 485 Controller. The sensor with 4-20mA outputs can be installed as a stand-alone sensor typically integrated with the Z Gard C Controller or common commercial equipment including PLC, DCS or building automation systems.

A plastic NEMA 4X enclosure houses the Z Gard DS Sensor. The unit has separate field replaceable electrochemical sensors for carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. Sensor status is shown by the green OK LEDs, which indicate that the device is operating properly. Z Gard DS Sensors also feature jumpers that drive the output to percentages of full-scale. This feature is useful for testing remote devices, which may be connected to the sensor output.
