Ballistics Pressure Sensors Now Available with Improved Thermal Shock Performance

Depew, New York, USA, March 2, 2009 - PCB Aerospace & Defense, a division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc. introduces Series 119B and 109C dynamic ICP® and charge output pressure sensors, specifically designed for measurement of internal ballistics. The rugged piezoelectric pressure sensors are structured with acceleration-compensated quartz sensing elements and detect rapid pressure transients and are ideal for high pressure ballistics measurements. The sensors feature an advanced ceramic coating on the diaphragm for thermal shock delay during pressure measurement, which eliminates the need to be replaced on every shot, like other designs that require thermal baffles. The ceramic coating also allows flush mounting, thus avoiding a recessed, grease filled passage, as with front-sealing types of pressure sensors. This flush mount feature is ideal for ballistic and near-field air blast measurements.

ICP® output features on-board electronics to provide a conditioned output signal and ease of use, with the ability to transmit noise-free signals over long cable runs. Charge output versions are also available, which allows use at higher temperatures when using a remote, in-line charge amplifier. Sensors are available with full-scale measurement ranges to 100k psi (690,000 kPa), and feature solid-state construction, no moving parts, high-strength steel housings, high frequency response, and sensitivity up to 20 mV/psi (2.9 mV/kPa).
