New Sensor Reduces Risk of Serious Damage to Motors
Milwaukee, WI (November 11, 2005) - Helwig Carbon Products is pleased to announce the development of the Helwig Commutator Protector (HCP(TM)) Sensor. The HCP(TM) sensor is a sensor wire embedded in the carbon brush that alerts when it is time to replace the worn brush.
"When brushes are worn too short there is risk of electrical wear to the contact surface, which can cause serious damage to the motor," says Jay Koenitzer, President of Helwig. "The HCP(TM) Sensor is ideal for equipment in remote locations or those that are difficult to access."
When the carbon brush reaches the predetermined wear level, the exposed HCP(TM) Sensor wire sends a signal to the warning devise. The alert occurs without interrupting the operation of equipment and assures that worn brushes don't damage the commutator. The HCP(TM) Sensor can be used with all types of brushes and is approved for all types and sizes of DC motors.
