VIP SENSORS Announces Smart Sensors Network System

San Juan Capistrano, California - VIP SENSORS introduces the Smart Sensors Network System, a distributed sensor instrumentation system with synchronous/simultaneous sampling consisting of smart digital sensors and transducer modules interconnected to a Network Interface Controller (NIC) through a multi-drop digital serial bus (IntelliBus(TM)). Small electronic modules are used to interface any traditional analog transducer to the bi-directional digital bus. The Network Interface Controller (NIC) provides a gateway between the transducer bus and a host computer, or depending on the configuration, with a telemetry system, or a remote computer through an Ethernet port. The Smart Sensor Network offers a drastic reduction of interconnecting cables, increases noise immunity, lowers installation and system costs, and increases overall performance.

"Smart Sensors" integrate all of the required measurement functions (e.g. analog signal conditioning, analog-to-digital conversion, digital signal processing, etc.) into a small electronic module that can be placed inside a traditional transducer. Similarly, these same small electronic modules are also packaged as individual IBIM's (IntelliBus Interface Modules), allowing the user to interface any traditional analog transducer to the bi-directional digital bus. Existing versions of these small IBIM modules (1.5 x 1.5 x 0.6 inches) consist of three low noise instrumentation amplifier channels with programmable gain (0.5 to 1000), offset, and high pass filter corner frequency. There is one 16-bit A/D converter per channel with programmable sample rates up to 250,000 samples per second. A powerful microprocessor allows the implementation of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms such as filters, data correction, FFTs, etc. The front end instrumentation amplifier allows conditioning of bridge type transducers such as strain gages, accelerometers, thermocouples, pressure transducers, etc.

The NIC is the master of the digital network and controls the bus communication traffic running at 15 Mbps. It provides DC power to all IBIM and Smart Sensor devices and also sends the necessary signals to achieve synchronous/simultaneous data sampling among all IBIM's and Smart Sensors on the Transducer Bus.

VIP Sensors offers a range of piezoelectric and voltage mode accelerometers, signal conditioners, cable assemblies and accessories. Shock and vibration calibration services are also available for all types of accelerometers. The company's strength is in its technical expertise in sensor and electronics design. VIP Sensors provides state-of-the-art, quality products at a very competitive price.
