June 23, 2010 - Able to be used with Uhing traverses and other level winding traverse drives, AVS system uses sensors to monitor and coordinate spool rotational speed relative to accumulation of material at spool flanges. Continual automated balancing of spool rotational speed with line feed speed and traverse speed/position results in smooth, level wind with no depressions or bulges at spool flanges. Suitable for spooling 0.008-0.197 in. dia wire, system handles spool rotational speeds to 3,000 rpm.

Sensor-Controlled Winding System Compensates for Warped, Damaged Spool Flanges -- Improves Quality of Level Wind

Aston, PA -- The new Amacoil-Uhing AVS system is a software-based level winding system that uses sensors to monitor and coordinate spool rotational speed relative to accumulation of material at the spool flanges.

Sensors monitor the line feed speed of the wire (or other material), the spool rotational speed and the linear speed/position of the traversing unit. When accumulation of material at the spool flanges is uneven, forming a dent or bulge in the level wind, the AVS will correct the defect by automatically making the required adjustments based on software analysis of the sensor data.

This continual balancing of spool rotational speed with line feed speed and traverse speed/position results in a smooth, level wind with no depressions or bulges at the spool flanges. Warped or damaged spool flanges do not interfere with AVS operation. The AVS may be used with Uhing traverses and with most other level winding traverse drives including ball screws and other types of linear actuators and timing belts.

The Uhing AVS system is suitable for spooling wire with a diameter of 0.2 up to 5 mm (0.008 - 0.197 inches) and spool rotational speeds of 3,000 rpm (max.). There are no optical sensors so dirty work environments do not pose an obstacle. Suited for cylindrical or conical shaped spools, the AVS system will store up to ten programs with preset-button access. A user manual illustrates the AVS install, however, a good working knowledge of electro-mechanical devices is required, particularly when the AVS is used with a non-Uhing traverse drive.
