ComNet Introduces Port Configured Self-Managed Switch

New 5-Port Switch Provides VLAN Capability, prevents Network Flooding without Programming

Danbury, CT. - ComNet, Communication Networks of Danbury, Connecticut, a USA-based manufacturer of fiber optic transmission and networking equipment, is introducing a four-port Self-Managed Ethernet Switch. The switch has four TX Ethernet ports that allow the Ethernet data from the three of the TX ports to be combined and inserted on to the network through the fourth TX port. The self-management feature requires no user intervention and is pre-programmed to avoid flooding the network.

The CNFE4SMS offers management without the cost or user knowledge required for a managed switch. This port-configured Ethernet switch allows the user to create a virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) that manages the Ethernet data being transported, thereby preventing network flooding. The CNFE4SMS is pre-programmed and meets the IEEE 802.1x VLAN management standard. The fourth electrical TX port is designed to forward the data from the three electrical ports to the next switch, to a PC, or another Ethernet connection. Distances up to 100 meters are supported. The CNFE4SMS is a cost-effective and easy way to add IP Video to a network, and is designed for use in harsh environmental applications.

According to Andrew Acquarulo Jr., ComNet President and COO, "This cost-effective Ethernet switch allows our customers to transport Ethernet signals without any complicated software or network administration. Being self-managed, the CNFE4SMS is very easy to install and maintain as your network grows. It is plug and play. Simply plug in the cables, power it up and the network automatically configures. The ComNet CNFE4SMS is another example of ComNet understanding the needs of the market and is demystifying Ethernet networks."

"With the introduction of the CNFE4SMS self-managed switch, we continue to round out our switch offerings and solve a multitude of challenges our customers face," said Skip Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing. "ComNet understands the benefits of Ethernet and with the CNFE4SMS, and we have removed the complexity and cost associated with these types of IP-video applications," Haight continued.
