In 2007, the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) enacted a law requiring secure prescription printing measures to combat the rising monetary and societal costs of prescription fraud. The law ordered healthcare providers to adopt prescription issuance to comply with three requirements: Copy resistance, erasure/modification resistance, and counterfeit resistance.
