Hamamatsu Introduces the ORCA-Flash4.0 Scientific CMOS Camera With High Sensitivity, High Resolution, and Fast Readout

Engineered around a new second-generation sCMOS detector, the ORCA-Flash4.0 is the first camera that challenges the performance of all CCD, EM-CCD, and first-generation sCMOS cameras for every fluorescence application

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., -- Hamamatsu Photonics introduces the new ORCA-Flash4.0 scientific CMOS camera. Featuring exceptional quantum efficiency and low noise, the ORCA-Flash4.0 delivers better signal-to-noise characteristics than EM-CCDs, cooled CCDs, and first-generation scientific CMOS cameras. The ORCA-Flash4.0's high sensitivity means extreme versatility. Now one camera covers a wide range of imaging needs--including super resolution microscopy, TIRF microscopy, live cell GFP, high-speed calcium ion imaging, FRET, real-time confocal microscopy, and many more.

The ORCA-Flash4.0 has quantum efficiency values of over 70% at 600 nm and 50% at 750 nm, and has only 1.3 electrons of read noise (at 100 full-resolution frames per second). This unique combination of high quantum efficiency and low noise, in the absence of EM-CCD multiplicative noise, means that images are no longer limited by the camera. With 4.0 megapixels at 6.5 mm × 6.5 mm each, the ORCA-Flash4.0 is ideally formatted for demanding microscopy applications.

The ORCA-Flash4.0 camera will be exhibited at booth # 751 at the American Society for Cell Biology's Annual Meeting on December 3-7, 2011, in Denver, Colorado, USA. To get complete product information or to send inquiries, please visit hamamatsucameras.com.
