October 21, 2002 - Custom Ultraflat Large Sapphire Windows offer parallelism to 2 arc sec, 20:1 aspect ratios, and surface finishes to 40-20 scratch-dig. Manufactured in sizes up to 6 in. OD ±.010 in., windows exhibit Moh 9 surface hardness for abrasion resistance. Impervious to water, most acids, alkalis, and harsh chemicals to approximately 350°C, they are suitable for use as viewports, laser windows requiring large viewing diameter, and as front surface optics.

Large Sapphire Windows Feature Transmitted Wavefront to 1/8 Wave

Custom fabricated sapphire windows that can now be precision polished in sizes up to 6" O.D. for use as viewports, laser windows requiring a large viewing diameter with minimum beam distortion, and as front surface optics are being introduced by Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Ultraflat Large Sapphire Windows feature transmitted wavefront to 1/8 wave, parallelism to 2 arc-sec, 20:1 aspect ratios, and surface finishes to 40-20 scratch-dig. Manufactured to customer specifications in sizes up to 6" O.D. ±.010", these windows are being offered for the first time, with these specifications, claims the firm.

Available in prototype through production quantities, Meller Ultraflat Large Sapphire Windows exhibit Moh 9 surface hardness for abrasion resistance, which is second only to diamond. Impervious to water, most acids, alkalis, and harsh chemicals to approx. 350°C, they are ideal for hostile military and commercial environments.
