Uvex Genesis® Safety Eyewear Beats the Heat

“Cool†lens tints and a superior anti-fog coating make Genesis the ideal choice for summer work applications

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 23, 2003) – Heat, humidity and intense UV sunrays usually result in safety eyewear fogging – the number one complaint echoed by most workers. While fogging can be a problem anytime of year, summer exacerbates the condition, and Uvex Genesis offers a solution.

“When visual acuity is compromised, workers can get hurt,†said Anne Chambers, brand manager, eye and face protection for Bacou-Dalloz “In order to see more clearly, workers often remove their fogged safety eyewear to allow the moisture to dissipate. “Whenever safety eyewear is removed, the opportunity for eye injuries escalates.â€

To solve this universal problem, Uvex developed Uvex Genesis protective eyewear – engineered with a unique ventilation channel between the eyewear frame and lens. This channel vents the eye socket area allowing air to circulate, reducing moisture buildup and fogging. This exclusive Uvex Genesis product feature combines with Uvextreme® AF anti-fog coating in the ideal safety eyewear for hot, humid and muggy work environments. Uvextreme AF lens coating offers the best anti-fog protection available with dual-action technology. Designed to perform at optimum levels in the most extreme environments, the hydrophilic coating properties simultaneously absorb moisture from the air and release it back into the surrounding environment. When the hydrophilic coating becomes saturated, the hydrophobic properties react to the moisture with an invisible film that absorbs water. As the film becomes heavier, it drips down the lens in a sheeting action.

Unlike most competitive coatings, Uvextreme AF offers permanent coverage that doesn’t wear off after repeated cleanings. Durable Uvextreme AF also extends eyewear life by reducing attraction of dust and particles that can scratch lenses.

In addition to virtually eliminating fogging, Uvex Genesis provides the appropriate tints for the diverse sunlight protection needs of outdoor workers in summer weather. A comprehensive family of polycarbonate lens tints with unique dyes block >99.9% of harmful UVA and UVB radiation, enhance contrast, reduce glare, and block blue light.

Variety of sunglass tints meet specific needs

The Uvex espresso brown-amber color lens filters 99.9 percent of UVA and UVB radiation and provides true color recognition meeting traffic signal requirements. This unique lens blocks 97% of blue light which is not harmful to the eyes, but can cause eye fatigue. Blue light makes things appear hazy and out of focus. The Uvex espresso lens minimizes eye fatigue and improves contrast by providing a clear, crisp view needed while working in bright sunlight – making it the ideal choice for all outdoor work applications and a recommended alternative to a traditional gray lens tint.

The SCT-Gray lens tint provides a dual-purpose lens for telephone utility or communication installation workers with infrared (IR) absorbing properties in addition to ultraviolet and blue light filters. Uvex SCT-Gray protects workers from short-term electric arcs and intense bursts of radiation while offering sunglass properties. This lens tint also provides true color recognition, critical to workers who need to quickly distinguish wire colors and avoid accidentally confusing colors and crossing wires.

Genesis’ gold mirror tint deflects the intense UV glare bouncing off rooftops or metal structures providing roofers and construction workers with the comfortable protection they require.

Genesis SCT-reflect 50 Gray features a light mirror lens that provides clarity for those who travel inside and out through varying light conditions in the course of the workday. SCT-reflect 50 Gray offers outdoor sunlight protection without compromising indoor eyesight – a perfect combination for loading dockworkers.

Genesis meets all ANSI Z87.1 and CSA Z94.3 standards for protective eyewear and exceeds both standards by a wide margin. Genesis also has passed the stringent military Vo ballistic (standard MIL-STD-662) test regimen.
