November 20, 2001 - 1206 LEDs are sized 3mm overall, with die face of 1.5mm. They are available in green with typical wavelength of 560nm and light output ranging from 6.0 to 12.0 mcd; yellow with wavelengths of 580 and 570nm and light output of 6.0 to 12mcd; and red with wavelength of 660nm and 33.6mcd light output. Voltage ratings are 2.1V for green and yellow units, and 1.7V for red.

Chicago Miniature Lamp Offers New 1206 Surface Mount LEDs For Wider Application Use
Manufacturers that require indicator and display lighting for auto interior, avionics, telecom and computer equipment now have available the popular 1206 SMT LEDs off-the-shelf.
"This is the first of a line of mainstream LEDs being supplied to the electronic and automotive OEM markets in anticipation of our North American production," says Paul Flynn, Chicago Miniature Lamp President. "Manufacturers now have the quick delivery and surety of supply that comes only from domestic distribution."
The 1206 LED, one of the most popular units for electronics, computers and auto interiors, is sized 3mm overall, with a die face of 1.5mm. Key applications for the 1206 SMT LED include
instrumentation, backlighting, display lighting, indicator lighting and membrane switches. The standard 1206 (12mm x 6mm) inner lens SMT LED package comes in the following colors:
green, with a typical wavelength of 560nm and light output ranging from 6.0 to 12.0 mcd; the color yellow, showing wavelengths of 580 and 570nm with light output of 6.0 to 12mcd; and red, with wavelength of 660 and 33.6mcd. Voltage ratings are 2.1v for the green and yellow units, and 1.7v for red.
Reel packaging for the Series 1206 facilitates automated circuit board insertion. Standard quantities per reel are 2500 units.
