Vishay's New Surface-Mount Bidirectional TVS Features High Surge Capability to 3 kW in DO-214AB

Vishay Intertechnology's New Series of Surface-Mount TRANSZORB® Bidirectional TVS Features High Surge Capability to 3 kW in SMC DO-214AB Package

MALVERN, Pa. – Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new series of surface-mount TRANSZORB® bidirectional transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the SMC DO-214AB package. For automotive and telecom applications, SMC3K series devices feature high surge capability to 3 kW at 10/1000 µs.

Offering twice the surge capability of conventional 1.5 kW devices in SMC packages, the new SMC3K series devices increase design flexibility and compatibility. In addition, the TVS' new low-stress, symmetric lead frame designs provide the high reliability required for automotive applications.

Designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment against voltage transients induced by system inductive load switching and lightning, the AEC-Q101-qualified devices are suitable for LNB and telecom power line lightning surge protection, and for automotive motor and battery power line inductive surge protection.

The SMC3K series consists of 19 TVS devices with stand-off voltages from 22 V to 78 V. The devices offer a peak pulse surge current from 23.8 A to 84.5 A, maximum clamping voltage from 35.5 V to 126 V, very fast response times, low incremental surge resistance, and operating temperature from - 55 °C to + 150 °C.

The SMC3K series meets the MSL Level 1 standard, per J-STD-020, LF maximum peak of 260 °C. The RoHS-compliant TVS devices are halogen-free according to the IEC 61249-2-21 definition and comply with WEEE 2002/96/EC. TVS with a stand-off voltage of 33 V and below are also compliant with the IEC61000-4-5 6 KV (Zs = 12 Ω) lightning surge test.

Samples and production quantities of the new SMC3K series will be available in Q1 2013, with lead times of eight weeks for large orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $3.10 per piece. Follow TransZorb transient voltage suppressors at http://twitter.com/vishayindust.
