GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces V7768, V7769 6U VMEbus Single Board Computers

Designed to deliver maximum I/O functionality

o Features Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo processor and Mobile Intel® 945GME Express Chipset

o V7768 offers maximum performance and functionality in a single VME slot

o V7769 supports dual SAS and up to three PCI-X PMCs in a dual slot configuration

o Software-compatible upgrade path for earlier VME64 platforms

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA March 6, 2008 Acknowledging the increasing importance of I/O connectivity in today's demanding defense applications for embedded computing, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms today announced the V7768 and V7769 6U VMEbus single board computers. The two new boards, which extend the company's established VME64 roadmap, also provide evidence of the company's commitment to supporting the latest Intel® processors and mobile chipsets

Both single board computers offer the Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo processor operating at 2.16GHz and the Mobile Intel 945GME Express Chipset. The dual slot V7769, which provides dual SAS (Serial-Attached SCSI) connectors on the front panel, can optionally be configured with an on-board 2.5" SATA hard drive. It features three PCI-X PMC slots, allowing for maximum user-defined connectivity. The single slot V7768 can also be expanded via the PMC237 mezzanine board to provide legacy PMC functionality.

"Increasingly, today's leading edge defense applications see the requirement to interface with a broad range of real world external devices, as well as often being only one system within a 'system of systems'," said Richard Kirk, Product Manager at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. "The V7768 and V7769 provide system designers with the flexibility to cost-effectively accommodate extensive and varied I/O functionality, while delivering outstanding processing performance."

The V7768 and V7769 are the first products from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms to leverage the power of Intel's dual core architecture in conjunction with the Universe(TM) II PCI-to-VME bridge from Tundra Semiconductor. This provides not only an easy, software-compatible upgrade path for existing users of the VME64-based V7750, V7751, V7805, and V7851, but also a range of solutions that offer significant choice in terms of price/performance.

Up to 4 Mbytes of Level 2 cache and up to 2 Gbytes of DDR2 SDRAM are provided by each board, as are two Gigabit Ethernet ports via the front panel. Two SATA ports, two serial ports, four USB 2.0 ports and PS/2 mouse/keyboard ports are also standard. Operating system support is provided for Windows® XP, Windows Vista(TM), VxWorks(TM) and Linux®.
