Diamond Meshes Atom, ETX, and PC/104-Plus

IntelŪ Atom Powers I/O-rich, Expandable Embedded Computer

July 16, 2009; Mountain View, Calif. - Diamond Systems Corp., a leading supplier of ruggedized singleboard computers (SBCs) and expansion modules for real-world applications, today launched Pluto, a compact, I/O-rich, board-level embedded computer based on an Intel Atom processor and featuring modular PC/104-Plus expansion.

PLT-N270-1G is the first in a series of Pluto models offering scalable CPU performance and power consumption. It integrates a low-power 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor along with up to 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM, and boasts a wide -20°C to +70°C operating temperature. Pluto targets defense, transportation, energy management, industrial automation, and medical applications.

Pluto's advanced high-resolution display controller supports analog and LVDS-interfaced CRTs and LCDs and also provides a TV output option. Pluto's extensive set of I/O interfaces also includes:

o 2 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN ports

o 1 IDE interface (supports 2 drives)

o 2 SATA interfaces (support 1 drive each)

o 4 USB 2.0 ports

o 4 serial ports (1 RS-232/422/485; 3 RS-232 only)

o AC'97 audio (mic in, line in/out)

o PS/2 keyboard/mouse support (USB keyboard mouse also supported)

o Parallel port (shared with floppy interface)

o Programmable digital I/O port (8 inputs, 8 outputs)

o CompactFlash I/II socket

Physically, Pluto is a low profile board-set comprising an ETX CPU module mated with an ETX-sized (3.5 x 3.7 inches) I/O baseboard. This approach offers enhanced thermal management, and increases the space available for I/O interface controllers and connectors.

A PC/104-Plus socket on Pluto's top side makes it easy to tailor the system to an embedded application's precise requirements, by plugging in suitable PC/104 (ISA), PCI/104 (PCI), or PC/104-Plus expansion modules.

Pluto packs a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, graphics, networking, a full set of I/O ports, and PC/104-Plus expandability into a compact ETX-compatible footprint.

Supported operating systems currently include Windows XP and Linux 2.6, with support for additional OSes and RTOSes (real-time OSes) available on request. Pricing and Availability Shipping now, the Pluto PLT-N270-1G - based on a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and equipped with 1GB SDRAM and a heat-spreader - is priced at $599 (quantity 1). An interface cable kit is available for $45.

Contact Diamond Systems for OEM pricing, application-specific customization services, and other details. Additional Pluto models, available soon, will feature Intel's LV and ULV Celeron, Core Duo, and or Core 2 Duo LV processors.
