Ampro Accelerates EPIC Form Factor Performance to 1.8 Gigahertz

Incredible high-end embedded CPU is now available for space-constrained applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 30 -- Ampro Computers, Inc., a leading supplier of standards-based computer systems and single board computers, announced today the immediate availability of the 1.8 GHz Pentium(R) M 745 processor on the tiny EPIC single board computer (SBC) form factor. This new top-end model extends the existing ReadyBoard(TM) 800 SBC to applications that require motherboard-class performance without the larger ATX-compatible footprints. Coupled with a rich set of I/O and ACPI power management, this board enables embedded system manufacturers and integrators to achieve a level of computation, communications, and graphics performance that used to require two separate boards or a large motherboard. Best of all, Ampro's ReadySystem(TM) computers now feature this board for ready-to-run Windows(R) XP and Linux(R) applications.

"Ampro continues to find innovative ways to bring notebook-class performance to the embedded market," said Joanne Mumola Williams, president and CEO of Ampro. "Our commitment to industry standards gives OEMs confidence in the long-term manufacturability and performance scalability of the systems they create around our products."

At a mere 4.5" x 6.5" (115mm x 165mm), the 1.8 GHz ReadyBoard 800 implements high CPU and I/O performance in a size that is 34% smaller than the Mini-ITX form factor. The Intel(R) 82855 chipset is featured, with up to 1GB DDR 333 SODIMM RAM, (4) USB 2.0 ports, (4) serial ports, (2) serial ports with RS-422/485 capability, EIDE, Gigabit Ethernet, 10/100 Ethernet with Wake on LAN support, LVDS, (8) general-purpose I/O (GPIO) pins, integrated chipset graphics, and PCI-104 expansion (PCI bus). The optional MiniModule(TM) ISA card provides a PCI-to-ISA bridge and compatibility with hundreds of commercial PC/104 (ISA bus) I/O cards. ACPI power management and RoHS compliance are also important attributes. Customers do not need to install the 1.8 GHz processor, since it is soldered on the board, not socketed. For more product information, visit ampro.com/html/EPIC_FormFactor_ReadyBoard_800.html.

For rapid deployment, Ampro offers this board in the ReadySystem 800 with a 40 GB hard drive and pre-loaded operating system (OS). Customers can get this time-saving solution configured in a variety of ways to meet application requirements. Flexible ordering options include internal ATX power supply or external +12VDC or +24VDC input, choice of 280mm x 200mm or 180mm x 152mm enclosure footprint, choice of RAM size up to 1GB DDR 333, and hard drives up to 100 GB capacity. Hardware accessory kits allow the ReadySystem 800 to be mounted on a bench, wall, or in a rack.

To jump-start application development, the 1.8 GHz ReadyBoard 800 QuickStart Kit includes drivers and Board Support Packages (BSPs) for Windows(R) XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, VxWorks, QNX, and a full Linux(R) 2.6 distribution.

Pricing and Availability

The 1.8 GHz ReadyBoard 800 model is available immediately. Prices start in the upper $600's in production quantities.
