February 16, 2005 - SinCos SKS 36 Motor Feedback System with HIPERFACE interface features Mini-Disc technology, which features track radius of 2 mm, permitting full scanning of entire code disc. Eccentricity errors of code disk, ball bearings, and shaft are eliminated. Code disc is mounted in center of axis of rotation, so high angular velocities are not limited by code disc. Housed in 36 mm package, encoder features 12-bit self-monitoring absolute position capabilities.

High Resolution Servo Motor Feedback in a 36mm Package

Resulting in high performance for smaller frame servos

DAYTON, OH – SICK STEGMANN, INC. introduces the SKS 36 SinCos Motor Feedback System with HIPERFACE interface. The SKS 36 rotary encoder is more than a small version of a conventional rotary encoder – its construction is fundamentally different, with a minimum number of components to open the door to the production of truly miniaturized rotary encoders. This allows small motor manufacturers to considerably shorten the overall length of their motors.

It features the innovative Mini-Disc (MiDi) technology. This very small code disc includes a track radius of just 2 mm. This permits integral (full) scanning of the entire code disc, which eliminates eccentricity errors of the code disk, ball bearings and shaft common to conventional systems. The code disk is mounted in the center of the axis of rotation, so high angular velocities are no longer limited by the code disk.

The 128 code disk lines are integrally scanned using a specially developed Opto-ASIC. The resulting sinusoidal signals have a high linearity and interpolation capability. In spite of its small dimensions, the SKS 36 encoder features 12-bit “self monitoring absolute position” capabilities for maximum reliability and accuracy. An error in the absolute information can be determined before a shaft movement even takes place. In the event of an erroneous code, an error message is produced.

SICK STEGMANN, INC. is a wholly owned subsidiary of SICK AG in Waldkirch, Germany. SICK|STEGMANN is a world leader in the design and manufacture of incremental, absolute and linear encoders, as well as motor feedback systems.
