November 6, 2007 - Utilizing 4-axis KUKA KR 40 PA robot with 40 kg capacity and up to 2,091 mm reach, robotic layer forming palletizing solution mechanically turns packages to form interlocking pallet patterns necessary to create stable pallet without reduction in palletizing speed. Solution positively orients and positions each case or package to form layer, resulting in repeatable and flexible palletizing solution that does not sacrifice product or case integrity.

KUKA Robotics Introduces Robotic Layer Forming Palletizing Solution at Pack Expo

Versatile Robotic System Provides a new Solution for Precise Product Positioning and Gentle Case Handling.

Clinton Township, Michigan - October 10, 2007 - KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced it will introduce and demonstrate its new robotic layer forming palletizing solution at Pack Expo in Las Vegas, NV October 15-17, 2007 booth S-5767. Robotic layer forming virtually eliminates package damage caused by conventional palletizers as they mechanically turn the packages to form interlocking pallet patterns that are necessary to create a stable pallet without a reduction in palletizing speed. The solution utilizes a KUKA KR 40 PA robot to positively orient and position each case or package to form the layer. The result is a robust, repeatable, flexible, and fast palletizing solution that does not sacrifice product or case integrity.

"Major retailers are increasingly requiring product shipments to be smaller, display ready and more varied in size and configuration and thus manufacturers need a more versatile system that can handle frequent product changeovers," said Stuart Shepherd, president of KUKA Robotics Corporation. "Our solution gives existing conventional palletizer users and manufacturers a lower cost option to retrofit their current system or improve future end of line packaging systems.

KUKA Robotics is partnering with its system partner T-Tek Material Handling Inc.(booth C-4846) of Montgomery, Alabama to introduce and demonstrate the new solution at the show. The new robotic layer forming palletizing solution utilizes a KUKA KR 40 PA robot. The KUKA KR 40 robot is a 4 axis robot with a payload capacity of 40 kg and a reach up to 2091 mm. It utilizes state of the art carbon fiber composite materials making it extremely light without sacrificing stiffness. KUKA Robotics will showcase the new robotic palletizing system on its booth (S-5767) at Pack Expo in Las Vegas, NV October 15-17.
