November 12, 2007 - Robot support iCAT swings away mechanically by up to 10° in event of collision between welding torch and workpiece, helping avoid damage to welding torch, peripherals, and robot. Integrated switch-off fuse reacts directly in event of crash and stops robot immediately. Support features central media guide and torsion-resistant cable assembly excursion ±240° in 6th axis. System is available for air- or liquid-cooled welding torches.

Robot Support iCAT Makes Even State-of-the-Art Welding Robots - with Central Media Guide - Even More Intelligent

There is lots going on in the field of welding robots. Workpieces are becoming more and more complicated and tolerances tighter, leading to requirements becoming more and more demanding. Both on speed and on the structure of the movement sequences themselves. There is an increased danger of the robot arm and welding torch colliding with the workpiece.

The robot support iCAT excludes this collision danger by connecting the robot arm and welding torch in an extremely intelligent way. In the event of a collision between the welding torch and the workpiece, the iCAT swings away mechanically by up to 10° as quick as a flash. Through this, the iCAT takes over a "buffer function", thus avoiding damage to the welding torch, the peripherals and the robot itself. An additional safety aspect is the integrated switch-off fuse. As a supplement to the collision software of the robot control system, it reacts directly in the event of a "crash" and stops the robot immediately.

The robot support is available for air or liquid-cooled welding torches. Further features include its sturdy and straightforward design, easy installation and the extremely torsion-resistant cable assembly excursion +/- 240° in the 6th axis.
