July 15, 2004 - Right-Angle Autoheader technology provides automation-friendly option for creating PCB interconnects. Autoheader can sequentially provide different length pin headers from one continuous reel. Ordered in single- or double-row configurations, components are available in various pin lengths, diameters, and position counts, including .45 x .45 in. configurations with standard 0.100 in. center-to-center spacing.

Right-Angle Autoheader Technology Fits in Low-profile, Limited Space Applications

San Diego, CA. Autosplice's new Right-Angle Autoheader technology gives designers a another automation-friendly option for creating PCB interconnects, with particular capabilities for fitting into space constrained applications. This supports the growing trend in the automotive, aerospace and other industries to pack more functionality into ever-smaller assemblies and to distribute sophisticated power and electronic control functions throughout a vehicle.

Building on the base of proven Autoheader components, this new version is designed to provide flexibility for creating low-profile interconnects that lie horizontal to the board, in order to accommodate applications with limited space above the PCB. For example, Right-Angle Autoheader allows harnesses to be brought in parallel to the PCB for applications such as automotive steering wheel columns or instrument clusters, where there is often very little vertical clearance.

Right-Angle Autoheader components are available in a variety of pin lengths, diameters, and position counts, including widely used .45” square configurations with standard 0.100 " center-to-center spacing. The components can be ordered in either single-row or dual-row configurations. Autosplice’s flexible continuous manufacturing process allows for quick turnaround of custom pin configurations and custom pin spacing as well. This enables the Right-Angle Autoheader components to be readily substituted for existing interconnects in standards-based designs and/or to support design of new compact plug-and-play assemblies that can mate directly to existing harnesses.

Use of the underlying Autoheader technology eliminates waste and optimizes automation because Autoheader can sequentially provide different length pin headers from a single continuous reel. This eliminates the waste typically associated with cutting fixed-length pin header strips into required lengths and discarding the excess. Autoheader also supports efficient automation by avoiding the need for mounting individual pin headers to tape for feeding to placement machines. Because Autoheader can sequentially provide different length pin headers from a single continuous reel, it also conserves space and promotes efficient machine utilization by eliminating the need for attaching multiple pin header feeders to a single placement head.

Autosplice is a leading manufacturer of terminals, component assemblies and applicator systems, providing automated solutions for creating electrical interconnections. Autosplice systems enable substantial cost savings and provide superior reliability over conventional connector products and assembly methods.
